Teeth cleaning

Is it worth it to get a couple of quotes for my cats teeth cleaning? I like my vet, but there seems to be some difference of opinions out there (and prices)

I tried to call around, but everyone was very evasive when talking about prices.  They all charged about $75-$100 for an exam, which involves looking at the teeth and giving you a detailed quote (which could vary anyways) So I would say go with the vet you like and trust.  For my senior cat, anesthetics, cleaning, 6 extractions, anti-biotics, and 1/2 day stay at the clinic $699.00

Good luck!

Thankyou, this helps. I think you are correct, and go with who you trust.  They are great, the $ just seemed to be adding up !
Our furry feline is worth it

I'm taking Abby next year. I owe him that. His teeth aren't bad but he has some tartar build up and I don't want him to get an infection. Since he's been through a lot, it is only fair to wait some time to do this as this requires general anesthesia.

My advice: Go with the vet you trust. Our pets deserve that :) If you can, get pet insurance. A lot of those cover teeth cleaning...at least some of it :)

We had Jades teeth cleaned last June.  The cleaning and anesthesia was $327 .  She also had 3 extractions which was $45 for all three so the entire procedure came to $415.  Definitely go with the vet you trust since you are dealing with anesthesia here.  I'm so glad we did this since Jade had the worst breath which was clearly due to not only the tarter build up, but infected teeth.  She has lovely cat breath now :)

We just had Waldo go through this with his teeth. One needed to be pulled. I regret not getting his teeth cleaned earlier, but then again, I didn't have the job I was working at the time and didn't think he had it that bad. It set me back about $400, but it was worth it. He seems much happier now. His breath is still kind of bad, but at least it doesn't smell like something died every time he yawns!

Also I'm trying to add brushing his teeth about once a day unto our routine. It's no fun for either of us, but it may help /slow down future infection.

I had the same thought yesterday and called around.  I thought the cost would have been more varied between locations of the country, but it looks like it isn't.  My vets quote was about $290 plus the extractions if needed.  They vary from $10-$65 depending on which ones they are.  It also included a preventative treatment with some to take home to smear on his teeth one a week.  The vet may want to see him before she does it to decide if she wants to put him on antibiotics before the procedure.

Poor guy really needs it, so I will have to bite the bullet and do it.  His breath has gotten hideous the last week or so- more so than normal.  He can sit on my lap and yawn and I gag from his breath.

Oh Boy- he is scheduled for April 9 with taking antibiotics starting April 4. 1 pill twice a day.  That's going to be really fun- He doesn't like people food much, so I may have to get the pill pockets or just shove it down.  It will probably be worse after the cleaning.  :(

aligator,

The pill pockets will save you stress and time. They are worth buying and kitties like the flavor.

Does he need a cleening or does he need an extraction? Poor guy..good luck. I know what you mean, my cat Abby had bad breath when he was on life support (feeding tube) He would not eat on his own, so THAT right there caused bad breath. Ugh...not good for a pregnant woman to smell that. I was gagging all the time since the smell was even worse to me due to my pregnancy hormones. But now it is all good although I do have to take him in for his cleaning. However, I will not take him in until next year probably. He has been through too much already...

Good luck!

HAHAHA- He hated the pill pockets- It was too sticky and he is picky enough to not like the flavor.  I only conned him in to eating one, along with other treats.  $10 for a bag that I still have to stuff down his throat.  Once I read the article posted on a website that was posted here about the pills, I had to use something.  I HATE it when one of my pills gets stuck half way down and sits there, I can't imagine how he would feel.

He got his cleaning this morning and is in recovery.  I knew he needed it badly, but just not how bad- He needed 6 teeth pulled- yep you read it right 6!!!!!!   It pushed the cost up to $520.  OY- raided the savings account- but he is worth it.

I can't IMAGINE the discomfort he was in.  It almost makes me cry to think he was hurting.

I still think it was the medicine I gave him when he was little that caused his ucky teeth.  He was on a "human" medicine (or at least I could get it at a pharmacy at half the price of the vet- still up to $150 a month) for 9 months.

My poor mother dropped him off for me since they wanted him when I was supposed to be at work.  She almost couldn't drop him off cuz he cried the whole way there.  He doesn't meow much- only when I get home from work- he meows about 3 times and is done.  She'd never heard him meow like that.  :(

I just have to keep thinking that they are my children.  I don't want 2 legged- so my 4 legged will work.

Thinking of you today and hoping kitty is doing well after his cleaning and extractions.  I'm sure he's feeling better already now that those painful teeth are gone.  I bet you might even already notice an improvement in his breath.  You know, when children are given a large amt of antibiotics, it can affect their adult teeth so maybe it Was the meds your kitty was on as a kitten.  In any case, it's over now; you're a very good mom to be on top of this!

"Kids" are expensive, huh.  That's ok though.  We want our babies to feel the best they can.
