Teia's okay, but needs a suppement.

Got off the phone with the vet a little bit ago.

Miss Teia has slightly elevated liver numbers, kidney numbers look good. Doc Bennett said give her the contents of a capsule of milk thistle every other day and we'll retest in March. I'll add that to her daily yogurt treat in which I mix the Miralax.  (She had a good poop and pee overnight =) )

Other than that, her numbers looked just fine, her eyes have lost a little blood flow to her retinas, but the corneas are clear and she is slightly hard of hearing.  She's social, alert, grooms, gets where she wants to with no trouble and has an appetite that suits her needs.

Not too bad for an almost 17 year old kitty for whom we know not too much about her 1st 10 1/2 years.

Picture is Teia having some shredded Cheddar, her favorite cheese snack.

I would dump the capsule in a little bit of water and syringe it in her mouth.  That way you are 100% sure that she gets it all.

Now to figure out a way that she'll take it, figure half a capsule every day, because a full capsule's contents really changes the appearance of her yogurt snack and put her off..

I'd say that's a pretty decent report on Miss Teia.  Not bad at all!!

Milk Thistle is one of the few herbal OTC drugs that vets allow us to use on the fur kids.  It's also great for people dealing with Hepatitis.  From what I've read, it does some miraculous things for the liver.  I'm sure that pharmaceutical companies are sorry that they can't profit from it.  You know they'd be gouging the heck out of it, IF they could!!!

Hey Pip.

I just love Miss Teia.  She is an inspiration to me.

I'm wondering if you're seeing a holistic vet.  Milk thistle is new to me so I must look it up.

For 17 the furry lady's doing great.  You take such good care of her.  You're both precious and I'm blessed to have found the kitty forum.  It's truly a special place with special people.  Special kitties, is that redundant?

I'm so glad you & Miss Teia have each other.  Love to the boys too.

Take care my friend. Blessings to Anita & all of yous.

BTW, the dark spot on the back of her neck was a small sore that has responded to having a dab of A&D ointment rubbed on it.  She showed no pain when I touched it, Dr Bennett thinks it may have been a skin reaction to something in the Frontline.
