Toxic megacolon

Does anybody know what toxic megacolon is as compared to megacolon in cats? Do cats that have been diagnosed with megacolon progress to toxic megacolon if the constipation is not resolved or is toxic megacolon a different condition all together?

The causes of toxic megacolon are not entirely understood. There isn't a definite link that suggests a progression but it is a possibility.

Toxic megacolon involves a chronic inflammation of the bowels causing ulcerative colitis. This means there are ulcers forming along the walls of the colon and there's a tendency towards infection.
