UNDERSTAND NOW ABOUT THE FIBER ON HISSIE

First of all, I will say that Hissie is staying overnight at the vet tonight. I will be picking her up in the morning. The vet gave her another enema. The vet called me and said, now all Hiss needs to do is grunt a time or two, then she will be relieved of this bout of constipation. So, Hissie is doing good. Forgive my ignorance about cats. Here I have been a huge cat lover my whole life and really knew nothing much about them. I just knew to feed their tummies, give them a safe home and plenty of love. But, thanks to you all, I have learned a lot and still learning. PrettyKitty, I now am understanding what you and the vet are saying about fiber. I will do all that has been suggested to me. I have just been so stressed out about Hissie and trying to absorb so much information on cats. But, I have switched her diet to Wellness. The vet tech told me, that Wellness was recently rated very high, among quality catfood. So, I have done that much right so far. I am understanding about the salmon oil as well. I will still give it to her, to keep her coat healthy. But, Hiss will most definitely be having fiber added to her diet, immediately upon returning home. Whether it is the husk, Metamucil, etc. Depends on what Hissie will take a liking enough to. BUT, FROM HERE ON, IT IS QUALITY CATFOOD AND FIBER. I feel very lucky that at 15, Hissie seems otherwise to be in good health. I got to believe Hissie is going to be one of those cats that may well live to 20. Wouldn't that be grand!!!! But, I am trying so hard to take good care of Hissie and do the correct things by her. Thank you all so much my friends for the kindness and knowledge. I will give an update on Hissie in a few days. GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Hi Lynn,

So sorry to see Hissie at the vet again : (   You know, I grew up with cats as well and have owned many myself and I have come to see that I didn't know much about cats either until I began reading this forum.

Lynn, we've been having computer problems, but I wanted you to know that you and Hissie have been on my mind every day.  I was so hoping to come on here today and hear some really good news from you, but sadly I see that's not the case quite yet.

Well, you've already switched to the Wellness and hopefully all Hissie needs is some extra fiber as suggested to turn things around for your girl.

You're picking up Hiss from the vet today and I will be checking this forum periodically for some news from you : )

Thinking of you and your girl.....♥

Hi Lynn,

If the vet told you it’d be best for her to add fiber to the diet, with your positive attitude, to me you’re headed in the right direction. If this doesn’t work, you could try seeking a second opinion with another vet, probably a specialist. Hopefully, the fiber will keep her regular. I am hoping that she will not have problems with constipation anymore. It’s very sad to see them weak and ill. I am hoping she gets better, so that you and Hissie have peace of mind at last. Thank you for keeping the updates coming.

Take good care of her. I know you will. And don’t blame yourself for her health issues.  You’re doing everything in your power to make her feel better. You’re being a good momma. She probably had a very poor diet before you adopted her.  You said she had been abused, right? According to Michelle Bernard, a nutritionist (and I am assuming here that your cat’s problems are due to lack of fiber now) cats that have been kept on dry foods for a long time tend to have little to no bowel elasticity, and Physillium Husk helps with that. Maybe fiber is your answer, hon. I’ll be hoping it is, because if fiber is indeed what she needs then you’re all set.
