Weird Question !!!

Hi Guy's,

As you know I have been around my share of cats. None like my Meezy!  She sometimes just baffles me.

My husband actually asked me this question and I realized I didn't have a clue as to the answer.

Question: Does your cat/cats ever look up to the ceiling and jump around like they see something up there??

Meezy does this, and while doing this she makes this noise like TSSST--like a hiss and spit at the same time  Now this sound may be because she has no teeth.  I know this is a sound she makes  out of frustration when she cannot get what she wants like more petting, grooming, get at the fur mouse , etc
She will also jerk back and forth like she is trying to catch something with this crazed look in her eyes!!

My husband and I just look at each other like, "Their Heeeeeere!

So ? Weird or What?? Any one out their with cats behaving weirdly like this??
Please say you know what I am talking about???? I do not think they make straight jackets with 4 paws!!!
Wouldn't  that be a riot? Think about it??

TIA,
CML

Hi CML2014,

I will definitely give Sammy a little scratch on the head from Meez.
You're so right about rescue cats being very devoted.  They
are definitely enlightened animals and we, my hubby and I, are better people for having Sammy in our life. Good wishes to you and Meez.  Eve

Hi Eve,

Meezy does the same  thing as Sammy!!!
I swear Meezy actually watches T.V. like Sammy. I watch a lot of nature channels . Those she will actually get off my lap and go up to the screen and try to figure out where the animals are  coming from.  Birds really get her moving.

Some of the times Meezy looks up to a spot like Sammy, but I know she also has this Hyperesthesia, too many other symptoms I can't ignore.
....and YAY to you for saving a rescue!  I think these rescue cats are so devoted because they actually know we have given them a second chance at life. They are very enlightened creatures, and I am a better person with them being in my life.

Give Sammy a little scratch on the head from Meez, LOL

Hi CML2014,

Our male cat, Sammy, likes to sit on my lap, relax and watch tv
at night with my husband and I on our couch. Often Sammy will suddenly sit up straight and stare at a certain corner of our living room ceiling.
He always looks very intently for a number of minutes and then he relaxes
and usually assumes his resting position on my lap. I know cats in general
have very good eye sight. As far as other member's suggestions that your
kitty may be seeing spirits, I agree. I believe in spirits myself as well as
an afterlife. I thought it was just our Sammy who stared at ceilings.
Your Meezy sounds like an adorable kitty. We adopted our Sammy from
a cat rescue organization two years ago and he's a real character too
and an important member of our family.  I wish you well.   Eve

Well , hats off to Yoda Cat!!!

I just looked over your info on seizures and Dr. Becker.
I believe Meezy has Hyperesthesia.

Yep it is all there. The swishing tail, the rippling skin, the biting at her hind flank, and the scratching around her neck. They sometimes "see things that we can't see" and run like a crazy cat like they are being chased . >>>>>and this is in the seizure category. I watched a few videos of cats with this disorder and their behavior is pretty close to Meez.
I do remember my vet telling me she thought she had "rolling skin" which can only be caused by a muscular action.

So my little crazy cat  has more ISSUES, but I would not trade her for the world.

Thanks to all for your input. Still am hoping some times she does see spirits, LOL

can tell how much you love your girl:)) no matter how short we seem to always find the $$ when it comes to their care....if possible take a video of her when she does this and show to your Vet than he would be more able to give his opinion...
but like furballMom said even if they are seizures they would be pretty mild and really nothing to be concerned about esp since shes had this for years with no change...
I looked on youtube, but all the kitties there were major (mostly) grandmals..this wouldn't be her case.
I did copy a video from dr. Becker who always explains everything so well...

Hi  ZQ.

She is a rescue and I got her when she was 5years old. Yes she has had this behavior since I got her. I like your answer best--I don't mind "spirit visitation". It is better than seizures!!!!!

Jade and Furball,
I never even thought about this until Opus mentioned it. I will keep a close eye on her. They could very well be seizures.....and here we are making fun of the poor thing, thinking she is seeing aliens.

It sure would not surprise me, she had a pretty tough life before I adopted her, and is considered a "special needs" kitty.

I must say I Never expected the seizures answer, but I am happy I asked and will check this out with her Vet. He has already bought a new home on the ocean with the money I have spent on this little creatures health. He will be salivating when I walk in with this, LOL!

Thanks for all the feedback.

Oh, I was completely freaked out!  I wanted to break my lease, but didn't think my reason of ghost infestation would fly with the apartment managers.  LMAO  Know what I mean?

CML, yes, there is a possibility of seizures, but try not to get too upset about it just yet.  Let's think that this is innocent and Meezy is seeing spirits(not sure how comforting that is, though LOL).  Now, is this a new thing with Meezy, or has this been going on since she was a kitten?  And, how old is she?

Oh, yes, I believe in this whole heartily.  Back in the 80's, our calico kitty 'Rainbow' would sit on the back of the couch, then stare intently up at the wall and ceiling.  She did this a lot!  She was an aloof cat, didn't love being pet or held, but have no idea if that had anything to do with anything or not.

CML, I will have to ask my husband, but I believe our kitty Abby (our kitty before Jade) displayed this behavior also, and she most definitely had some kind of seizures (she was ALSO an aloof kitty who didn't like to be pet or held) where her pupils got very large along with acting like she'd been frightened by something.  She also had OCD about cleaning herself.  Then again, she WAS kicked in the head by the kid across the street.

Jade has never displayed this behavior at all.

ZQ, your story gave me the chills!  How freaky!!

I wouldn't be too concerned even if it is seizures.  If it is seizures, and as long as they don't happen too often, they're probably petite mal seizures.  I mean, if they aren't happening all that often, then I wouldn't get too concerned.  Now, if she went into convulsions, that's like a grand mal seizure, and that would be something to be concerned about.

Akira gets something that might be petite mal.  I'm just not sure if that's what it is.  But, even her vet thought it could be.  And, she said that since it doesn't happen too often or too much that it's one of those things that's best left alone.

OH NO! Opus!

You think it could be seizures?? These little spurts are random,  mostly at night, and she will look up and Tssst, then play with the sheet, than repeat these behavior--not exactly but will always look up at least twice. Not just her eyes her head too. If it is a seizure wouldn't it be just the eyes rolling up?

Meezy has enough things wrong with her already, now seizures?? I will have to pay closer attention to this behavior.
Frankly I would rather go with A or B answers from ZQ and Pip.

I do believe in spirits, energy and others one need a "second vision" to reach.
For some reasons , cats owners are more "ready" to acccept this things, I guess :-)
But your cat can be just going after something quite small to be noticed and/ or something he just sniffed.Or  no....

yes I do believe this as well...although I must admit I have never had any eerie things happen, nor my cats(that I know of)...maybe I'm just not at all perceptive.
ZQ I think I would have really been freaked out by that phantom phone call...how weird is that

CML....another possibility for Meezy's actions is she is having a slight seizure...does the behavior last long? like a min or less? just curious...

I certainly believe that cats, dogs, children and some (sane) adults can see things others can not.

In Irish tradition it is called "Second Sight."

Oh, I really really believe!!!  I lived in a building from the 1800s and I KNOW there was plenty of "energy" going on.  I had 3 cats at the time.  And, one of them saw a ghost cat.  NO JOKING!!!!  I was laying on my side on my bed and my cat was facing me and I felt something jump behind me.  I thought it was one of my other cats.  I turned around there was nothing there.  You should have seen the look on my cat's face.  His eyes got real big and he took a step backwards.  I was pretty freaked out after that and had to sleep in the living room.  LOL

I've had other creepy stuff happen too-like a boyfriend got a "prank" call and when he hit caller ID, my phone number came up!!!!!!  There was no one there but my cats.  We hauled butt to my apartment with a baseball bat. And, of course, nothing there.

I tell ya, it was a creepy experience living there.  I lived there for 13 yrs.  I always had experiences in that building.

If you want to do some reading, the place is Olde Towne Portsmouth VA.  There's lots of interesting history over there.

OMG! Really?  I believe cats can sense energy! I suppose spirits are energy.  Do you think this is unusual for a cat to do, therefore , sensing energy in the form of a spirit ?

We live in a building that is only 10 years old.  Seriously, ZQ, I would hope for this to be the case. She is a pretty strange little kit, so anything is possible.

Thanks,
CML

I seriously believe that cats see spirits.  I also believe in them!

How old is the place you live?
