What do you cats think of cleaning?

Stardust gets nervous and needs comforting when we clean.  She watches us and makes weird throaty noises.  I don't think she likes it too much.
When I vacuum she is no where to be found.  She sees me take out the vacuum and runs as fast as she can.

Our last cat, Abby was terrified of just the very Sight of the vacuum.  Now, Jade is a whole different story and doesn't even flinch.  I've never actually vacuumed a room while she's in it just since it's so loud, but I can get right up to the inside of the bedroom with her on the bed and no reaction from her, at all.

Jade totally hates a broom, though, and will run when I get it out.  I have one outside the back door, too, and as long as it doesn't move, she's cool, but let me touch it like I'm going to use it and she can't get away fast enough.  We think her first family might of shooed her away with one or something.

I volunteer at a cat shelter, and all cats seem to be different.  Pumpkin was swatting at my mop today while Elliot was hiding in the litter box cabinet when I was cleaning their free roam room.

My Fluffy was scared of the vaccum, but as he got older he'd just retire to his bed in the closet and ignore it, or if he was sleeping on the bed, just look up like he was annoyed.

Most all of the cats we've had have run and hid when the vacuum wound up...Calamity Jane Grey (11/82 - 03/04) would follow us around.  Loud noises never seemed to bother her.

Heck, when we lived in Ohio and needed to have termite treatment applied, Cammie sat next to the fellow who was using a hammer drill, making holes in the concrete, to inject the "stuff" under the slab upon which the house was built.

LOL, Pip, about Cammie and the hammer drill.  Reminded me that Abby used to sit not a foot away from this enormous air compressor my husband has.  That thing is So Loud, but it wouldn't faze her when it would suddenly come on.  Animals hearing is much more acute than ours so you would think something like a hammer drill or air compressor would be too much for them, but guess they deal.

Love this thread.   The huge variances in cat behavior: fascinating and funny.

Pip..admit it, you are putting a lil xanax in your kits food..lol.  Your kits are mellow.  Miss Telia (sp?) included.

Jade...funny about the broom.  Diego is very laid back: I am the one who hates the vacuum cleaner..no funny remarks gf!  He hates the kitchen broom....to the point where he insists on going out or leaping on table when I sweep kitchen floor.  I think Jade and Diego were probably wacked at some point in their lives with one of the things.

Hahah...can imagine Cammie and the hammer drill.

So...who, besides me...puts off the cleaning chores that frighten their cats  until ...umm ...they are out or asleep in far bedroom??

I think my cats get worried we are going to move again when we clean. Also things stop smelling like them and I think it makes them mad.

Mine want to "help" when I am cleaning.  Zany will "lead" when I vacume.  I'm suppose to follow her and she detours if I've missed a spot.  Squeaky some time hops up on the head of the upright for a free ride.  Chatty will open up the cabinet doors so I can get to the cleaning supplies. And when I sweep the kitchen floor, everything that gets swept up becomes a new toy.  But their favorite is probably when I make up the bed.  I have to check for "lumps" under the covers.

Akira doesn't care if I get out the broom, so apparently no one misused brooms around her.  But, she really hates the vacuum.  I can't really blame her, since I don't like loud noises any better than she does.  But, one really can't avoid using the vacuum.  Usually, I try to start in the room that she is not in, but eventually I have to vacuum the room she is in, too.  She runs to the other part of the apartment while the vacuum is on.  The funny thing of it is, though, sometimes I find her sleeping on top of the vacuum head when it's put away in the closet.  So, she is fine until the thing is turned on.

She definitely loves making the bed.  It's really funny when she is "helping" me make the bed.  She is such a character.

What can you do about them laying all over your legs at night ...if I move her she sneaks back ...

Lots of luck there.  LOL  Akira is really funny.  She'll lay on my legs 'til I just have to move.  If I move, she voices her opinion, much like a child that is whining.  The funny thing is, though, she gets fed up and finds her own place to sleep.  She is such a princess that it's funny.
