As has been said, the process of giving Snickers his insulin shots will become easier.
Anita and I gave Calamity cat sub-q fluids of the last 2 1/2 years of her life. Once she sensed that the pinprick and unsettling sensation of that fluid pocket helped her feel better, it was no longer a big thing to her.
While kitties love routine, I think they are very adaptable, especially when the new thing is understood to be a good thing.
You're doing great, Sara! Amazing how the distraction of our babies eating or sleeping can make a procedure go smoother. And you've only been giving Snickers these injections for a few wks, so it'll get easier as time goes on. Whew, proud of you, girl! I wouldn't want to be giving injections either, but we do what we have to do out of love, don't we.
I'll be checking in later for your update. Prayers and fingers crossed for Snickers, and Big Hug to you, my friend!!! ♥
I am waiting for the results now. Vet said he looked alot better, more alert and his coat was improving. He gained 4 ounces which he isnt supposed to do but she said we have to get the blood sugar under control first.
It's great to hear that Snickers is doing much better now. It sounds like his blood sugar is coming down. I think you'll see even more improvement once that sugar is normal, like drinking less, litter box a lot less wet, and even more attitude!
And, if Snickers actually lets you shoot him up while he's eating, that's a good sign that you're not hurting him! =)
I wouldnt say a pro yet but i can do it while he eats now!! I still hate it and dread it but his life depends on me so i will get used to it in time. I still think i am hurting him but he takes it like a champ. Once i get past that it will go alot smoother. Appt is at 8:45. Vet wants him to be in or around the 6-8 hrs after his insulin. It;s about 2:55 a.m. so i better get some sleep. I dont get home from work till 12:30-12:45 and im not really tired! Will update you in the morning that is coming quickly!!!
Snickers blood sugar was 420 on the 10th, so unless it's come down to normal in 9days, the wet litter box makes sense...right? I doubt it's the 'new norm' but then again, I don't know much about diabetes either. I remember a member from last year who used to post often where it took a bit of trial and error to get to the therapeutic insulin dosage. I can imagine how distressing it is to see Snickers go back a step or what seems like one, Sara. You'll know better by tomorrow's appt.
Keeping Snickers and You in my prayers. We will be waiting for your update after the vet tomorrow. Hang in there, Hon. Big Hug!!
You a pro at the injections yet? ☺
He is still eating good but i cant seem to get a handle on the water thing. He is hanging out there again and the litter box is WET. Maybe this will be the norm now. Will be going to the vet again this Friday to check his blood sugar. I so hope it continues to go down......fingers crossed.
Hi Sara....hope Snickers is improving day by day!
I am so happy to hear Snickers is responding to the new food and acting more himself. Good job, Sara!
Your post was a few days ago; how is Snickers today?
glad to hear Snickers is doing so much better....good job girl.
I found this video from Cornell Vet University that I thought would be good info for you...♥

awww good news sara ..makes me happy .
That's good news about Snickers!
He is still responding really well to his increase of insulin. Appetite is coming back along with some attitude! He doesnt look like a skid row kitty anymore!!!
Hoping for the best for you and Snickers
Update on my boy..
He seems to be responding to the increase in insulin. His appetite has been better the last couple days and the litter box isnt as wet. He isnt camping out at the water bowl anymore. Grooming is always done after he eats now too. Slowly but surely we move forward!!
Ha ha! I am laughing out loud at Snickers and him turning his back on you. He is still really upset about that car ride is'nt he?
Snickers sounds like a real little fighter. Hopefully his blood sugar at the end of the week will be much better.
Prayers and lots of love to you and Snickers. Corena
He is still crabby tonight! I actually laughed for the first time about his behavior. I walked in the door and he hauls off and bats my ankles, meows and walks away from me!! I plop on the couch and he sits right in front of me and just stares....I apologized for the car ride and then found myself explaining to him why he has to go for those car rides. He finally just walked away and is now on the chair with his back to me!
He didnt eat much tonight. This whole thing still concerns me something terrible. That mass on the pancreas still looms. I have opted to wait a week before we do the ultrasound. Will see how the blood sugar looks next week. Fear of the unknown is alive and well. Seems easier to sit and worry about it instead of dealing with the situation. Typical addict behavior! I need to practice what i preach!! And so another day passes, my boy is still with me, I am clean, doesnt get any better than that~~~sara
Hi Sarah, I know I haven't been on MH much anymore but I did want to keep up with how Snickers is doing.
I'm sorry about the diabetes but am glad he's doing ok right now. I will continue to pray for Snickers and you! Love to both of you!
An obvious improvement which is great to hear! Hope Snickers likes his new food, too!!
good, its heading the right direction so the insulin is working...!!!! keep up the good job Snickers, hope you like the new food -))
Well, if Snickers has the energy to be mad at you, I think it shows he does have reserves upon which he can draw.
Hoorah Snickers!!! Hate that car kid...
His blood sugar was 420 today!!! Started at 540! We have already went up 1 unit or cc(whatever you call it) so will let that work for a week and recheck the blood sugar. We also got some food for critical care kitties that smells good, tastes good and is full of nutrients. She wanted to try this before the meds. He is madder than he!! right now as he hates car rides!
I also am sending hugs and best wishes at the vet today. Maybe all that's needed is an insulin adjustment! Fingers crossed!!
