Yellow Fat in Intra-abdominal of cat

Yellow Fat in Intra-abdominal of cat

This is my first post. I am writing on behalf of my friend. Her cat was taken in to the vet for spaying and that went well, however, the vet said the cat needed blood work done due to Yellow Fat in the Intra-abdominal  area. What does this mean .. is it life threatening?

I am in the medical field-NOT animals, I admit.  BUT, yellow fat is normally found in the abdominal area!!!  It is normal!!!  Of course, some have more fat than others!!  LOL  Is the cat chubby?

I do know that fat in the human is different in cats. around the abdominal area. The yellowness was the concern... and sadly they made my friend feel like it was very threatening. Not, loling here... truly worried as she is crying. I have tried looking it up.. and it seems it could be caused by liver failure... but I cannot find much about yellow fat in the intra-abdominal area.

The way fat looks in the body is not different.  ALL fat is yellow cat or human.Honestly!  I'm sure there are some pics on the yahoo image search engine.  I will go look, and if I find a pic I will post the link.  Maybe the vet saw the fat in a weird place.

Did the vet mention liver problems?  There is such a thing as fatty liver.  How is her cat acting?

I am so sorry that she's so upset and crying, right now.  She needs to, at least, try to remain positive.  If her cat's acting okay, then maybe it's nothing.

Did the vet mention the word: Tumor? I have heard of cases where the cat has had to undergo surgery. During surgery, and in some cases, a tumor has been found. Maybe this is why the vet wants to look into it closely. Where exactly is this fat located? Cats with extended heat periods can develop this, especially in one, or both ovaries. If your friend feels like seeking a second opinion, I mean that would be excellent. You could also ask on the Ask A Vet, or expert forum about it.

Tell your friend her kitty will be fine. If she does have something dangerous, I'm sure surgery and treatment will bring her back to health.

Good Luck.
