abandoned 5wk old kitty holding her own

Just a quick update on the kittens progress. Does anyone have a formula for kitten replacement milk? I have tried her with lactol..start right and whiskas kitten milk and she wont take any of them. Tried her with different size syringes feeding bottle and eye dropper. off a spoon and off my finger. She will take water (with entrodex added) from a syringe tho and is taking the hills critical care tinned food so she is getting something. I would be happier if she took milk but she really fights it and I don't want to waste her energy.Does anyone know  how many mls of liquid to give per kg over a 12 or 24 hour period she should have as I am more worried about her dehydration than solid food. Her temp has started to go down its now 39'06. but it needs to drop more. Had a fan on her and been keeping her in a cool place so lets hope the antibiotics will start working soon. She has actually used her cat tray this pm so thats a start.
Any help and advice would be really appreciated many thanx

Pip is a grand, fine name for a terrier. :)

Good to read the little one in on the mend.

Hiya Jade
       Tried putting kibble on top of wet food but she wont have any of it! Weird but as long as she is eating something I don't mind. Her temp is now stabilising and back to normal. Her energy level is up and although she is still a little unsteady on her feet that does not stop her from climbing half way up the curtains or to the top of our big cat tree then realising she don't know how to get down so out come the step ladder again! She is totally spun out by our parrot who must seem sooo weird to her...Murphy sounds like a cat making all different cat and kitten noises but has two legs feathers and flies!! When she goes to poke her paws in his cage he shouts THATS NAUGHTY STOP!! (Among other choice words!) This little kitten is as tough as they come and a proper fighter think thats why she survived and the others didn't. She is very wary of my other cats apart from her foster daddy but the other cats seem to sense this and let her go to them which is great, She does love the dogs though an curls up with my terrier ***** Pip (Which Pip adores as she gets to wash and nuzzle the kitten)
Makes me wonder if the kitten came from a household with dogs rather than cats! I really appreciate all your comments tips and support its nice to know there are other like minded cat crazy owners out there. I shall keep you all updated with kitty but think we have finally turned a corner with her.

I love waking up to good news.  I just looked at her photo; she is So pretty; just adorable, both your kitties are.  Have you tried putting a few kibble on top of the wet as a trick to get her going?  This works great on Jade when she turns her nose up, and asks for something else.  Just ONE kibble on top does the trick. I realize you have a different situation, but can't hurt to try.

In time, I think your adult cat will naturally teach this little sweetie how to behave.  Fingers crossed! :)

Hi all. Kitty is doing better. Her temp is down to 39' so hoping it will continue to go down. She will not accept milk in any form!! REALLY frustrating. But on the upside she has started to nibble on dry kitten food again she will not eat ANY tinned cat food-tried all varieties and all brands also tried human grade cod sardines salmon lamb beef rabbit BUT found she will eat chicken mixed with tuna with cheese on top! Hows that for a fussy little madam lol. Joking aside at least she is starting to eat on her own. With syringe feeding she REALLY hated it so I thought better to cut the apron strings slightly and let her stand on her own four paws. She is more perky and taking an interest in all around her. She is still really skinny only 00.07kg and with her long coat she is a ball of fluff. At 4am I was woken up by desperate wailing she had climbed half way up the curtain and could not find her way down and later managed to get to the top of the floor to ceiling cat tree and again got stuck! I know that its going to be one step forward and two back but at least she is making an effort lol
Next it will be socialising and handling her without me getting bitten scratched spat or swore at! (Talk about biting the hand that feeds you)
At least this def proves that she is feeling more of herself. It is obvious this little girl has had no real handling and has had to fend for herself and sadly her other litter mates did not survive. I have been lucky that one of my cats has fostered her and washes cuddles and gives security to her. Keep everything crossed guys and gals but things look good and for me..........
Having more than 3hrs sleep tonight. lol x

Hiya Jax!  Good to hear from you! :-)  You can check kitty's hydration level by pulling up on the skin on the back of of her neck, letting go, and watching how fast the skin returns to normal.  Less than a second is good.  Slow is not: she needs more water.  That's the only tip I have right now.  I'm sure others will chime in.  Blessings to you and your kitty - Blu

My kittens loved KMR.  I'd use the liquid kind rather than try to  mix the powder.

Be sure to clean the little baby's anus after every feeding to stimulate the poops.

the recommendations on the 2nd site I gave you yesterday says 2 tablespoons of the milk replacer for every 4 ounces of body weight.per day...can you est. what kitty weights?

2 tablespoons equals 30mls......

At Foothill Felines, we've found it is easier to start young kittens off using a plastic syringe (without the needle of course!) instead of a small bottle; it's easier for us to control the flow of the formula and even be able to give it drop by drop if needed. From the newborn stage until the kittens are about 1 1/2 weeks old, use a 3 cc. syringe, and feed every 2 hours. At 1 1/2 weeks old, they are ready for the 6 cc. syringe size and feeding every 3 hours, and at about 3 weeks old, move them up to a 12 cc. syringe, feeding them at least every 4 hours. An average meal for a 3 week old kitten can vary from a single syringe full (12 fluid cc) to three syringes full (36 fluid cc) for a large and hungry kitten!! We like and use the KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) formula, available in most large pet and feed supply stores. While the powdered form is more economical, it does not always reconstitute as lump-free as needed to flow through the syringes (best method is to mix a small amount with cold water first, similar to the process of making lump-free gravy, then add the mixture to the rest of the batch). We prefer to use and recommend the LIQUID FORM IN THE CANS. If you shop around, including online, you can find the best price for purchasing the formula. If you are unable to locate or purchase KMR in your area, we have nutritious "KITTEN GLOP" recipes on this website that you can make from ingredients at home.

How much formula to give? Normally, it is recommended that you give 2 tablespoons of liquid formula for every 4 ounces of body weight per day. For very young kittens, you will need to divide their total daily amount into six equal sized feedings, and yes, this does mean during the night, also!! As the kittens grow, the number of feedings and their frequency can be decreased. Also as they grow, they can let you know better when they are actually hungry. Kittens that are not getting enough nourishment may cry continuously, suck on each other or on themselves, and they may have prominent hips or backbones.

Do I need to burp the kitten? After each feeding, you will need to hold th

thx for the update....good to know kitty is holding her own, I gave you the recipes site yesterday on your post..there are several on the link below. you can also use some meat choices in the baby food jars...just be sure there is no garlic or onions in the mixture...a kitty this age also needs the protien.
I'm not sure how many mls per kg but will post it if I can find out...

this is the one I like the best

Stephanie tells us that Dr. Glenn has been working very hard helping her and others in cat rescue for over 10 years, and he has used and recommended this formula for over 25 years!!

INGREDIENTS:
* 12 oz can evaporated milk
* 1/2 cup water
* 1 egg yolk
* 1 tsp kayro syrup
* 1-2 drops of vitamin

* Pedialyte formula (from World Health Organization)...no preservatives so short life-span
* 1 cup water
* 2 tsp sugar
* 1/8 tsp salt
* 1/8 tsp baking soda
* (this Pedialyte formula gives needed electrolytes & some sugar for energy)

Combine all ingredients and warm slightly.
