asthmatic kitty?

I'm wondering if my appr. 5 yr old altered male, Butters, might have asthma. He's slim, so overweight isn't a factor-it's most noticeable when he's sleeping-he wheezes a bit.  And also more so in the winter-we're in the northeast and have humid summers.  i have asthma myself and he sounds the same as  i do. Unfortunately, we don't have funds for the vet right now-aside from the humidifier and keeping him at his trim weight, is there anything i can do for him? He doesn't gasp for air, he's not short of breath when he gets the goofies and runs around like a lunatic-just the wheezing. He's perfect otherwise-all normal.

Hey, Sweets.  Tell me, is it predominantly when he's curled up with head tucked under like they do so adorable?  Because when Jade's in that position, she makes a wheezing/snoring sound, too.  

The humidifier is definitely a good start!
