baldie-toes

baldie-toes

I recently adoped a kitten from the shelter, about a month after a puppy. they are still getting used to one-another, and yes, there are many places, including full rooms, that the kitten can go that the puppy cannot. she climbs over the gate we use to contain the 6 mth black lab and hangs out in the living room when she wants to be alone, and she's got free-range of the bed and tops of furniture.

however, she still growls at him frequently. the lab behaves very well, but does want to play, like any pup would, and I think it scares her some, though she keeps coming back for more. she plays "approach and growl", sometimes hisses, bats at his nose, etc. but hardly ever runs away and stays away, she always goes back for more

recently I noticed what looked like blood on her paw, between her toes, and I thought maybe she got bitten, or maybe from climbing and, like any kitten, falling down got a small cut or bruise between her toes. I looked at it again this morning and it looks more like she's been over-grooming, though I have never seen her just sit and lick at her paw, and I'm home all day

she's been here for a couple weeks now, and she's very friendly, plays with myself and my BF who lives with me, purrs all the time, doesn't seem too stressed except when she "plays" with the dog.. and if it were a problem for her, she'd stop, I'd think...? she eats and drinks normally, uses her litterpan and scraches a post, hides in the furniture, she's very well-behaved

I'm just very worried about her toes.. she's about 6 mths old, if that, and was spayed when we got her (it's healed well, and her fur is growing back) and she's not now, nor will she ever be, de-clawed, so I know it's not that..

any ideas as to what might be causing it.. just between the toes on her front left paw?

Check to make sure the claws are still there on both sides. Its possible she accidentally ripped one out or partially tore it. That would explain the blood. It's a not uncommon injury, especially in active cats.

Just keep an eye out for infection; the wound will heal over time. Over grooming from stress usually starts on the hind quarters, stomach, or back. The foot would be an unusual place to start.
