black think in cats nipple looked like a tick

Ok so I noticed that there was this black thing on my cats belly,  it looked like a tic had dug into her skin.  So with the help of my husband we started to get the thing out.  Well to our surprise it was NOT a tick.  It was in fact something really gross.  We noticed that this black thing was where her nipple should be and the stuff that came out was really stinky,  it smelled like and old wet dog who had never been washed before.  We did get all the stuff out and cleaned the area,  it looks good now but there is another one on the other side.  Her other 4 nipples are fine.  She did have kittens back in June on the 27th,  we gave them away in September around the end of the month.  She got spayed and declawed about 3 weeks later.  What the heck could this be and what would cause it?????

I found this answer on another site and I found it very helpful! My cat seems to have what looks like a tick in her nipple too and I plan on removing it as well.

Best Answer:   I can tell you exactly what this is....

I work as a vet tech in a cat only practice....and this is something that i refer to as "nipple cheese". Sounds gross...but it describes it very well. We often see this in overweight cats, that aren't able to groom their bellies very well. Glandular secretions build up around the nipple, and when they are not groomed away by the litty, the nipple becomes inverted with the "cheese." Sometimes, very carefully, you can use pressure to pop the nipple back out, but sometimes no matter how hard you try, it just wont come out.

There isn't anything you can do to fix the problem, except for getting you cat to loose weight so it can groom better. If you aren't convinced, you can take your cat to the vet.....

I hope that this helps....

P.S. I currently hold the reccord at my hospital for the longest "nipple cheese"-- 3"

The best thing to do is to take her in and have your vet check it out.  It could be some kind of infection and, either way, treating it yourself could cause an infection.

She should be fine, but I'd get her looked at as soon as you can.
