cat attacks me

I have a female cat that we have had for 3yrs.  She has always been a lover at times but never been the type to sit on your lap and get petted all day.  She doesn't like may people that come over cuz a kid was mean to her when she was small.  She comes in to heat and most the time she wants to be petted and loved, well they last time she came in heat she started growling at me and attacking me for no reason.  She doesn' attack my husband or our dogs just me. If i get close to her she growls and attacks my shoes biting the end of the ripping chunks out of my shoes.  I dont know what to do.  Its mostly at night when she does this.  I need some help to understand whats going on.  Thanks jennifer

Ditto to what everyone else has said.  Repeated heat cycles will definitely make a cat cranky, uncomfortable, and is not good for her long term health.

Unless you  are breeding her.....do get her spayed.  Think behavior is directly related to hormones!

She will be a much happier, healthier kitty if you get her spayed.  Spayed females have a much lower rate of breast cancer!

Please consider spaying her!

Well, I'd say you've really got your hands full.  She's 3 and never had kittens?  Sounds like she acting frustrated, needy and agressive.  I really think you'd have a much better pet on your hands if you would just get her spayed.  Is there any reason why you have not done so?
