My kitten died this morning at 7 a.m.  Please be very careful if your pet is ever put on rifampin.  It is a very powerful antibiotic and made my kitten worse than what he was before he went on the antibiotic.  He was so lovable and precious to me.  I  wish I never would have put him on this antibiotic for cat scratch disease.  I loved him very much and will miss him.  I have two older cats to help me get through, but this is just like losing one of your children.  I have to go, starting to cry again.

Thanks for helping. He was under a vet's care but I should have stopped the rifampin long before I did.  I gave him 16 out of 21 doses.  He died 2 days after the last dose.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Cyndi.  If your baby was under a vets care, then you were just following directions and couldn't know the outcome of giving this med to your boy so please don't blame yourself.  You did all you could.  I know it was hard, but thank you for posting so future members will know to beware of this med for a small kitten.

Again, my deepest condolences, Cyndi.  (((Hugs)))

In case you don't know the poem, *The Rainbow Bridge,* I printed it out for you.

*Rainbow Bridge*

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you for caring and for the poem.  I do okay as long as I don't dwell on him or talk about him for a long period.  I have a new kitten who I named Snookums.  She helps to fill the hole in my heart for Percy.  Everyone please be very careful when your pets are put on powerful antibiotics.  I don't want anyone to suffer the way that I am.  Rifampin was just too strong for a little kitten.  I only gave him 16 out of 21 doses he was supposed to get, but he still passed 2 days after the last dose.  I think it attacked his central nervous system.  He was such a sweet little boy, and I will  miss him for a long time to come.  Crying again, got to go.

I am sorry to read of your loss.

We had a little cat, April Dancer, that my wife rescued from a parking lot on the USAF Base where we were stationed at the time.

http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/show/94337?personal_page_id=40606 (link to a picture of her)

Dancer was our house gremlin, always looking out for us and the other three kitties (Victoria, Cammi and Cerrie).

She, too, passed under a vet's care; anaphylactic shock from a mild sedative during a routine procedure.  I'm a veteran and saw a little bit of combat, did well according to my older, more experienced comrades...never cried so hard as when that little critter died while we were trying to do right by her.

Sometimes you do everything right, but you still get a wrong result.

Percy did have a richness in his life, you and your love for him; something a lot of kitties do not get in their lives.

Take care - Pip

Thank  you for the comforting thoughts.  I'm beginning to wonder if the medical system is just as bad for our pets as it for us.
