It's hard to say. He could have an upper respiratory thing going on. It could be Herpes, allergies. I just don't know. If it's Herpes it can be controlled but there's no cure. The best you can do is try to boost his immune system. If your vet isn't giving you any answers maybe you need to find a new vet. Good luck. Hope you get some answers soon!
no unfortunately not too likely to be something that will pass if he's had it for this long and grandma too.
since theres a cough with it, could also be heartworms/heart problems or even asthma??...can't understand why the Vets won't give tests for? as these can be managed with medications.
Poor baby he does sound lovely and I hope you are able to find out whats wrong....I can tell you love him.
Thanks for interesting in kitten problem. I will try to do that. Hope will be at least under control with that therapy. He is good looking male cat now, he eat, play, sleep and do all physiological need without trouble. Hope that is something which will past. Love him too much.
I agree with opus, could be FHV. If it does turn out to be herpes, it is not something that will ever go away. This would also explain why kitty and her grandmother both suffer from this for so long. It can be mildly controlled, however.
Ask your vet to test specifically for herpes. The test is a bit expensive though. Herpes is Very common in cats so your vet may forego the test and just give you the amino acid, L-Lysine to put on kitties food. L-Lysine helps keep the herpes outbreaks under control, somewhat.
Oh shoot, I'm not awake yet and didn't read opus' full response which covered all bases. lol...I already typed this out, so will leave it :)
Good luck and let us know how your kitty is doing!
Thanks a lot for your answer and yes he was seen by those vets and nobody of them undertake him under no analysis. Strange, because it is a bit long period to be with that problem, more than that same thing happened with his grandma, they told me that might be some kind of allergy (related to cough problem she don't have sneezing prob at all). I will try to see on of them again and ask to make test for herpes virus. Thank you again!
hi..I am so sorry to hear of kitties problems. You say you have asked alot of Vets..do you mean the kitty has SEEN these Vets?
Because kitty really does need to be examined for a good diagnosis.
You can also ASK A VET.....on our ASK AN EXPERT forums.
go to the top of this screen and click on PETS, than click on general health questions on the left hand side. this will take you to a Vet forum and they will help you.
Some small research I did I was able to come up with
-upper respiratory infection...this can be the HERPES VIRUS, ask your Vet to test for this....the Vet on the Forum recommended using L-Lysine an amino acid to help fight the virus...
good luck and please let us know how kitty is doing ok
