does my cat miss his mother????

does my cat miss his mother????

When I brought my cat home for the first time he was a couple of wks old.Eveything was fine until I started to notice him sucking his own nipple.@ first I could not believe it and wasn't sure till I got a closer look and sure enough thats wat he was doing.Heis now a little over 2 snd I'm wondering should I break this or leave it alone or is it because he msses his mother still??I;m totally clueless though I have to say it is the cutest thing I ever saw a cat do.Does anyone have any good advice  for me???

first of all 2 weeks is entirely too young to be taken from its mother, should never be befor 6-7weeks!
he is indeed missing his mother, I hope you had him on bottle feedings?...he was to young to eat canned or dry food at that age, how did you feed him?
I doubt you will ever break him from this habit now and likely shouldn't try...I once kept one of the kittens from my female and he continued to suckle his mother even when he became bigger than she was....the mother finally put a stop to it and he was pretty upset with her for awhile.

Absolutely agree!!!!   A kit should not be removed from the mother until the mother has weened the kit herself.  There are many reasons for this besides the fact that your little one is trying to nurse himself.

The mother's milk, just like for human babies, has nutrients that they need in order to be healthy, their eyes are just starting to open, during the time mother is nursing she is also teaching appropriate behaviour, etc.

Many stores have milk replacement for kits and bottles to feed them.  Would be a good idea to get this since your kit still needs the milk and his teeth are not grown enough to be eating either soft or dry kibles.

The others are right. Please take good care of your little one. Sounds like he is in good shape if he has made it to two months under your care and not his mom's. But, for next time......let the kitten stay with mommy for a little longer. If you play your cards right with your cat, he can develop a very strong bond with you, because YOU are all he knows. So give him lots of nutrients, and don't try to break the habit. That's just how he feels comfortable the most. Let us hope it will go away with time.
