There are a few things that can cause this in cats. One cause is stress, environmental changes such as moving, or bringing a new pet into the family can cause this sort of "self destructive" behavior. Another possible cause is an allergy. Cats can be allergic to dust, mold, and even other cats. But it is very likely that it is a food allergy. I might suggest switching to a natural grain free cat food and keeping his claws well trimmed, this worked for my kitty at least (with the help of a cone to stop her from irritating her sores while they were healing.) Good luck!
I believe my cat had the similar problem. It was on his throat and on the side of his tummy. Does the cat eat the same food all the time? It might be from that. Try putting neosporin on the wounds with a cotton swab. Works every time.
thanks for the suggestion, he (vivaldi) has an uncanny ability to destruct any cover we have designed thus far.
We have had something similar happen to our cat..of you cut the stretchy part off a sock and get a paper towel damp and cover the womb with paper towel and sock it will keep him from licking it.
