Let me make sure that I'm understanding here!  Do you mean desexed is the same as neutered????  I think that's what you mean.  If this was a recent surgery, then the sex hormones could still be going through his body for a week or so.  If it's been longer than that, you need to take him back to the vet.

yes neutered, its been a week and half since it was done. All my friends have never seen it happen with a cat before. I think he might be a lil crazy
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Well, just as I thought, this was a fairly recent neuter.  Give him another week and a half, if he hasn't chilled out by then, take him back to the vets.

Please come back w/ an update!

thanx for telling me that.
do u know why he likes to go to the toilet in my bath lol?

I've had many cats over the years and I've seen the same thing happen to my male kitties!  Give it some time!

If your cat is going potty in the bath tub, then I'd recommend the clumping cat litter and clean it every day.  That should solve that problem!

Let me know how it goes!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
I clean his litter try every time he goes so its always clean.
I think i might need to change his litter it stinks really bad when i put it in his tray.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Are you using the clumping litter?  It's great at getting rid of that stinky litter box smell.
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
Its home brand and it says highly absorbant. But it just goes straight down to the bottom of his try and sticks. I buy it because comes in a really big bag and i get alot of .tray use out of it,
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
I'm not sure what home brand means, but from what you described it sounds like regular litter.  The clumping litter is better-the urine clumps up so you can scoop it out and throw it out.  That's why it's better and causes less stench in the house.  Yes, it's more expensive, but soooooo worth it!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
i will give it ago. my kitten is still mating my puppy and i ask the vet and they said he might never grow out of it.

Agree with Zodiac,  you have to use a 'clumping' litter.  It will help him to be able to bury his feces and urine, and if you can, get a 'low dust.'  The dust given off by some litters is extremely irritating to incisions and cuts.

Also, you might try this....put the litter box in the bathroom (if you can), or close the bathroom door.

If this doesn't work, I have had good success when rehabbing cats by confining them to a smaller area where they have their food, water and litter box.  Cats rarely go potty in such a small place where their food and water is, so the litter box is their only place. It has usually only take me a few days doing this and the problem was solved.

Also, I do not recommend using the pan liners.  Many cats are repelled by the petroleum of the plastic.
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
thank you i will give the clmping litter ago.
his litter is no where near his food and water and he will use his litter about twice and then use the bath even if i had cleaned the parts he has used.

One other thing you can try is a Vinegar spray.... it is real easy..   get an 8-12 oz spray bottle and fill with water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar.  Spray it where you don't want him to be urinating.

Vinegar and Citrus is repulsive to cats.

Avatar_f_tn
The mating thing...  he probably will grow out of it...  again ...  what sex is your dog..  has he/she been spade/nueterd?
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
thanx ill try the vinegar thing. The puppy is a boy and he is not nueterd.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
get that pup nuetered..  even if you cat is, you pup is not.   and he is sending out fermones.  Until you get you pup neutered you will probably have this problem.

How old is he?  There is a new neutering procedure that allowes neutering before they 'drop' ...  ask your vet.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
btw...how is the 'weeing' ?   has he started to use his litter box regularly?
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
the pup is 6 months old and we want to breed him. My kitten uses his litter all the time and then when he uses it like 3 or 4 times he will go somewhere else. and i always take the used bits out.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
HI, I'm back!  When you said that he will use the litter box 3 or 4 times, and then goes outside the box.  That is now obvious to me that your cat is very picky and wants a very clean litter box.  I really think that the clumping litter is your answer!!  Just clean out the pee and poop every day and you won't have this problem anymore.

Let me know how it goes!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
cool thank you i will buy it very soon. can u tell me why he wakes me up at 5 in the morning, it is very annoying.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
LOL, that I can't answer.  Each kitty has their own personality!!  Some are more demanding than others.  I bet you've got a demanding kitty!  =D  Ya gotta love their personalities though!  I love the talkative kitties!!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
yeah he is very demanding kitty. He is very spoiled lol. He had a bath today and just sat there like he was king.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Your kitty is a definite keeper if he was a good boy during bath time.  My cats go insane when they get a bath-clawing, biting, hissing, growling.....the works!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
yeah he is a very good boy. all my mates say he thinks he is a dog lol.  i have a question when male cats get fixed do their ball sacks go down? or do they just stay the same?
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
At this time of year my cats wake me up around 5 am also... I think it is because the sun is starting to rise about that time and they think it is time for everyone to be awake...lol.

I think it is wonderful that your cat enjoys baths...  my youngest cat needs baths but hates them!!!!  He doens't attack me or anything...just tries to get out of the sink...lol, but after he feels so much better and just purrs like crazy when he gets the hairdryer.

I still agree with zodiac...keeping the litter box clean is teh best thing... even if you have to scoop after everytime he goes.  Some cats are very very particular.

I count myself lucky..I clean the boxes in the morning and at night....and they seem happy with that.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Yes, it should go down....unless there's some "balls" left in there!!!!  LOL
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
i put the clumpin litter in just before so i think its a bit of a waiting game now and see. i always clean  his litter as soon as he goes to keep it clean and also the puppy eats it. my kitten is waking me up early every second morning which is good no.
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
ok cool. it has been about a month and they stull havent gone down
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Maybe, he's got some swelling going on.  That would be weird, though, since it's been a month.  I'd give the vet a call and see what they have to say.  They might want to see him again.  It doesn't sound normal to me that you're kitty is still swollen.
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
Ok yeah ill give them a call and see whats going on. I always think the worst when it comes to things like that so i hope its nothing bad.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
OH, I hear ya.....I get very paranoid about my cats too.  I know it's not good to think the worst, but we love them and can't help it!  With your cat, I'm 90% sure that it's nothing serious.  He might need some kind of treatment, but nothing that can't be fixed easily.  There might be some bleeding that's causing him to be swollen.  I saw something like that in a dog on Animal Planet's show Emergency Vets (I think that's what the show was called).

Let me know what the vet says when you talk to them!
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
the vet did say if he is very active 2 or 3 days after his surgery done blood will go there. that could be what it is.
the clumping litter is working really well he seems alot happier with it then with the other one. and it is alot easier to clean.

this is really embarassing! I have a 6 yr old male and he WAS neutered when young..the last 2 yrs he has been trying to mate with ME....he starts he howling wooing cry and rubs on my legs or now my shoulder when I am in bed!
Have talked to my vet...and he wasn't helpful..thought it could be something irritating his penis but that checked out ok....I have had cats for 30 yrs and have never had this or heard or it before...has anyone heard of this?
thx
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
that does sound really strange i have only heard of dogs humping people or other things, but my kitten humps my puppy.
When i asked my vet they said that because he started the humping before being neutered it has became a habit.
It your cat try mating or mated before getting neutered?
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
thank you so much for putting me onto the clumping litter whiskey hasn't been in the bath since i change his litter over
Blank
874521_tn?1334001325
I agree very bizarre behavior indeed. its no even so much that he attempts to actually hump me...hard to describe, its more that he wraps his whole front arms around me than slides his back feet up and down my arm or leg and wiggles while mewing and crying out.....very strange and hard to describe, believe me it was also very embarassing when speaking to my young male vet about(luckily I know him well and we had a laugh)
I bought him at 6-7months of age and had him neutered immediately...I don't believe he did any mating before that?
could it be that he smells my hormones(although at near 60 I have few left!!)
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
It is very rare, but his testicals and nerves may have grown back but just have not dropped for you to see.  Early neutering, as you did, does have a higher risk of regrowth.  You may want to get him examined by a vet that does NOT know him.  That way you get an objective opinion.

As I said, it is rare, but not unheard of.  We lived with a dog who was early nuetered and his grew back.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
I have never heard about balls(choosing not to be formal....LOL) growing back.  I don't think it's possible.  The only organ that is able to regenerate is the liver.  Now, if they left some ball pieces in there, then it would be capable of producing testosterone that will cause humping behavior.

My mom had a cat that the vet left some ovary in there after a spay.  The body tried to "fix" that leftover piece and it turned to cancer.  She acted like she was in heat-showed all the symptoms.  The vet did exploratory surgery, and that's when they found it.  The tumor was fully encapsulated and thank God it didn't spread.

i was looking at my calender the other day and realised my kittie was about 3 to 4 months old when he was fixed not 5 months. will that effect him in anyway when he is older?
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Hi hon, 3 or 4 months is the usual time that people get their kitties fixed.  And, don't worry, I seriously doubt that Whiskey will grow his balls back.  LMAO
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
YES!!!!!!! i got told 5 months
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
You may not have heard of 'balls' growing back, but it does happen, rarely.  And when it does it is even more difficult to do a nuetering.

My youngest cat was 'early' neutered by his previous humans.   His testicals grew back, and had to be re-neutered.   It still looks like he has 'balls'  but he doesn't.

Although it is rare, it does happen.  Nuetering prior to 4 mo will increase the risk of 'grow back.'

Have you ever known someone who has had their adnoids removed as a child and then as an adult find out they have grown back?   Sort of the same thing.  They aren't suppose to grow back, but sometimes they do.
Blank
Avatar_f_tn
Yes, Thank God the tumor was encapsulated.  At least it was able to be removed without the threat of spreading!

I worked with cats passing away from cancers...it is ugly, horrifying and all you can do is cry and hold them and let them know they are loved.
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251
Well if that is the case and they have grown back. that mean i spent money on nothing. and i shouldn't have bothered in getting him neutered.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
You shouldn't tell Whiskey or anyone else that balls grow back.  This so-called fact is not on the internet anywhere.  If you can't post a link, then you're ball-grow back claim is BS.  Prove me wrong and find me an internet site.  If ya can't, then you shouldn't be filling anyone's head with your opinions.  Like I've said before, some of the things you've claimed WITHOUT any proof scares people.  It is not fair to the people that come to this forum looking for advice.  They are looking for facts.  A fact can and should be proven.

Whiskey-Hey hon, I really don't think that your baby was neutered too young.  We've always had our little boys neutered at 3-4 months old.

The Internet isn't everything, Zodiac.  I have searched for information on other things and no results, but when I went to a medical library...wow....results!

I said it rarely happens, and it is rare.  My cat grew his back, and had to be re-neutered.  There is information out there, but as I said it is not ALL on the internet.

The internet is great for looking  for information, but not all information is on the internet.  Sometime you have to do the old fashioned way....BOOKS, PUBLICATIONS, SECOND OPINIONS, ASKING PPL WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT, ASKING QUESTIONS TO YOU BET AND WATCHING THE FACE DURING THE ANSWER TO DETERMINE LYING OR NOT.

Do not accuse me EVER of posting anything that I cannot backup.... just because it is not on the 'internet' or does not match your ideals.  I do my research, I speak from experience.  Besides...I would take any Journal or Book over any internet search any day...at least when it is published it is scrutinized for accuracy. With the internet, anyone can post any study at any time and it may never have been read by their peers OR the association to which they claim to belong.

btw...   getting subscriptions to anything that has to with animals is difficult and expensive...  the library is a good source.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Well, if your so-called facts were true, one would think that out of the zillions of sites on the internet....you could find at least one match.

I take it from your obnoxious post that you apparently couldn't back up your claim that balls grow back.

WHISKEY-I rest my case!  Ignore the other post!

If you rely on your information to be posted on the internet, I really feel sorry for you.

There is so much to learn from books and journals that are published but not put on the internet.

Not everyone holds teh internet as GOD! of information.

So it takes a little work to get the info that is in print....at least it is info and reviewed in order to be published.   My opinion.....   there is nothing better than paper to turn in order to learn.

With males there is a condition called "ascending testicular episodic structure" (zod.... make sure you look it up... it won't be on the internet but it will be on many vet internal med books and in journals)   what it is =  the testicals drop (descend) and are apparent and 'seem' dropped enough for neutering.   However, the also ascend 'retract' when there is a sense of danger.  This is usually when a cat will spray.  For some cats, this lasts until they are almost 1 yrs of age.

I did not say anything about neutering to young.  All I said was that they may have grown back.   With cats, when they have this condition, their testicals may grow back.

I also stated it was rare. And it is rare, but it does happen.

Zodiac, give me a at least 3 internet articles certified by the board of vets that say this doesn't happen.    Then we will talk about the viability of internet

AMEN Sara!

Many people are not too happy with your attitude on this forum!  You are a new member starting a bunch of drama.  This is not exactly a good way to make friends on here.

I'm not looking up that ascending testicle cr@p,  first off what in the world does it have to do w/ balls growing back?  Second, I'm not the one to make that claim about that ascending ball condition, so YOU look it up.  If you don't find anything, then, once again....you are putting false information on here.
Blank

I am not the one starting the drama...new or not.  As I said in our private message, I didn't want to step on your toes.  But apparently since I am new to Medhelp I can't know anything, or know how to learn anything.

It is now apparent to me that it does not matter what a person and knowledge of as much as the time they have been with MH.

BTW... descending and ascending testicals has much to do with neutering.  If a cat has ascending testicles it is more difficult to neuter.

Bless you Sarah and Zod.    I am still waiting for those internet articles.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
YOU made the claim, so YOU find the articles.  From your description, it has NOTHING to do with testicles growing back.

Last of all, I am not responding to this thread anymore.  Whiskey, the girl who started this thread does not need people arguing back and forth on her thread.  It is not helpful to her.  I am done.

You told me I was wrong.   You should provide internet links that say so, since you rely on the internet soooo much.

"Well, if your so-called facts were true, one would think that out of the zillions of sites on the internet....you could find at least one match. "

I am not the one that has to prove, you do... you deny that everything I say is wrong because I am new to MH.     So prove me wrong about this.....Give some lovely internet links that say that regrowth cannot happen.

If you can't do that then maybe you should start reading paper instead of screen.

You are right about the arguing.  This is not the first time Zod has accused me of something.

I just state what I know or have experienced, and if it isn't on the internet then according to Zod it isn't true.  Plus the fact that I am new to MH.

I don't like arguing. In fact I hate it immensely!  However, if someone is going to challenge me then they must prove me wrong, because I do not get most of my information from the internet!

When have you seen a dog get over humping unless they have been trained to not do so?

It is different with cats.  Cats and Dogs have different behaviours.  Cats DO NOT HUMP unless they are sexually stimulated in some way.  Either they have not been properly neutered, or they have not been neutered and there is a female in heat that is in the area.

Whiskey, you recieved my message.  It is more than time to get him re-examined.

Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
Hi, hon!  I was joking!!!!!!!!!!!  LOL  Sometimes, a vet can leave some leftover testicles in there that can cause the humping.  Remember, a "vet" left some ovaries after my mom's cat was spayed and that little bit of leftover caused her to be in heat.  I don't remember if I told ya that or not.  Did I?????  I think I did, about 20 posts ago in this thread.....I just don't feel like going back and reading all of this again.

If the vet is very confident that there were no leftovers, than maybe this humping is just a habit.  Did the vet do some investigating to make sure?  Did you ask him about the possibility?
Blank
691935_tn?1282008141
maybe your cat is a "monorchid", meaning he has only one testicle and the other is undescended. These cats are still able to reproduce. I had a cat like that once.  Had him fixed and about 6 months later he was mounting every cat in the neighborhood.    Had to go back to the vet for 2nds
Blank
931246_tn?1297906251

Avatar_f_tn
Hmm, so the vet may have left something...interesting.  I thought that could never happen (sarcasm)  because of course it is rare, and rare things never happen, and for her to go into heat? Are you sure? Even just a little bit shouldn't have any impact, right? According to your theory.

Since the ovaries are a very distinct looking organ, I would think it impossible for a GOOD surgoen to miss even a sprinkle of them.

But, gee, what do I know.  I am a newbie here and now absolutely nothing.
Blank
587315_tn?1333556383
No....according to you balls grow back.  THAT can't happen (realism).  You mentioned undescended testicles, I agree that can happen.  It happens w/ male children, too.

About the leftover ovaries, apparently the doctor was not good.  The spay was done by her previous owners.  My vet wouldn't have done something so idiotic.

BTW, I do agree w/ you on some things.  I am NOT against you all the time.  Honestly!

The liver is NOT the only organ that can regrow... and testicals can grow back (if you want to talk to my vet, msg me, I will give you is number) also give me a little time to get back to the Ohio School of Med to get a record of the Vet Journals I checked into.

Yes, this does happen with male children. Good thing we don't Castrate them.

Zod, I will repeat this till my face is blue...  Just because it is not on the internet, does not mean the studies do not exist.  Go to the library of congress and find out how many books they have coded, this coding does not include journal and periodicals.  You will find there are more sources at the Lib. of Cong than on the internet.

Not every publication has the money or time to scan and upload and code for the internet.  YOU have to realize that.  If you don't then maybe you just don't want admit that All You Rely On Is The Internet. And someone who does know and has read has the 'balls' contradict you because you have a longer time on MH than the other.

I would not say something about cats, dogs or other animals that I have no clue about; that I have not been educated about.

Yes, we may agree on some things.  But you need to get a clue about reseach aslo.  And a Clue about people who have been through this.

You have to realize, too, that there ARE reliable sources on the internet.  Grant it, there are some BS sites out there-can't argue about that!  It's a lot easier to use the internet AND, believe it or not, I've got quite a few veterinary medical books at home.  I don't rely on the internet as my only source.  Have you actually checked out some sources on the internet?  They don't always have to be vet journals to be reliable.  Although, I really love the human medical journals.  I haven't seen vet medical journals online, but I haven't looked either.  Here are 2 very reliable sources that I use a bunch-the Merck Veterinary manual(online version) and Cornell University has a great site(veterinary medical school).  Ya can't get much more reliable than those sources.

Anyway, instead of us going back and forth all the time we should just call a truce and help people.  Obviously, you and I love cats.  At least, that's something we have in common.  I also realize after rereading some of my posts on here, that I could've handled our differences more respectfully.  I apologize about that.

By the way, I just went to the vet expert forum and asked them about testicles growing back.  I will be open-minded.  If I am willing to be open minded then, I hope you are willing to be as well.

Here is the link to the post on the expert forum.

That is a MH link...no thanks.

Zodiac, it is time for you to just drop it.  I stated what I know, not only from reading what is not on the internet (and there aren't very many vet journals that publish on the internet unless you to go JStore or other sites like it) but also what I have experienced.

Testicals DO grow back.  Just like Tonsils or Adnoids will grow back if all the tissue is not removed.

I have not had anyone message me that they are NOT happy with my attituded.  If anyone is not happy with my attitude (besides you) , please send me a message...  I really do want to know - sincerely- I want to know.

Kaydey, that link that I gave you were answered by 2 real DVMs and a vet tech.  You can't get any more reliable than that.

I read the comments on the link you posted.   I have also talked to a few of the Vets here where I live.

They have stated that if not all of the testical is removed, they can grow back.

You also need to remember that I said that this is rare.   They concured.  It is unusual, but it can happen.   It is not just the physical appearance.

Whiskey, do what you want to do. It isn't up to me or anyone else how you do this.  I just hope the spraying doesn' start in the next few months.
