i went to the shelter and talked to them about my Babys case

so i called the shelter yesterday about the sickness of my kitten Baby, for all who didnt know, she was a really cute kitten i took to the vet for her last couple of shots and a day later she had passed away, i had an autopsy done and the vet stated that she only had one kidney and a heart illness that would have killed her no matter what anyone would have done.

however, i called the shelter yesterday and let them know so no 5 year old little girl tries to play with one of my Babys siblings and all of a sudden has a dead cat in her arms. i went there today and talked to a women about my case, she said they talked about it already and they will call me tomorrow mid day to let me know if i might be able to get a free kitten, she kinda looked at me like i was insane as i told her i thought my male kitten was attacking my sick female kitten cuz he sensed that she was weak, damn woman its called survival of the fittest!

anyhow, as i asked about her siblings, since cats rarely only have 1 baby and Baby was born in the shelter, she had 3 siblings, and all were put to sleep, 1 there in the shelter and the other 2 by their families, so i guess they were adopted already. how horrible to have adopted a kitten and to have her or him put down? probably just as horrible it is to adopt a kitten and 6 weeks later to find her dead.

the thing is, now i ask myslef, if 2 families adopted her siblings and had to put them down, shouldnt they have contacted me? they put one down, two were put down, out of one litter? i think they were kinda obligated to call me and tell me about it, dont you think and agree with me on that?

idk well ill let you know what happens tomorrow :)

but even if they allow me to get a cat for free, i will wait a little till i have money again (cuz i spend it all on Baby) and have them call me if the get a medium to long hair baby kitten in.

i understand that completely, i didnt think of that either until someone actually told me that if one kitten had something that the others might have had something too, thats y i called the shelter i kept emagine a little child holding a dead kitten in their arms, anyways, no one knew Baby was sick, my vet told me she never heard anything wrong with her heart, just one single weird soung the last time i took here there but after that sound everything was ok again and a day later she had a heartatache.
however i hope so too, thank you :) i will let you know if they agree to that :)

Christ! If Baby's siblings were put to sleep then it means they were all born with major problems, just like Baby. If this was the case, they should definitely spay Baby's mother since she obviously can't give birth to healthy kittens. That is so sad.

Please let us know what they tell you tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see what they do/say.  What you did not a lot of people do, like April said. So it's good that you're digging into this and making them consider checking up their newborns before putting them up for adoption. Sometimes checking for worms and feline Leukemia isn't enough. It's better to do this than to have a person come into the shelter, adopt a sick cat, and spend a lot of money on a kitty who will die no matter what. It is devastating to the owner to see the cat they chose to love and care for die just like that.

Please get back to us as soon as you find out more.

To be fair, I'd say most owners in a situation like this probably honestly wouldn't have thought to look up the other owners of the siblings. Don't get me wrong, it's good that you did but I just don't think most people would think of that. I think they probably were just devastated like you and are dealing with their own grief. Does that make sense? Yes, it would have been nice if they would have contacted all the owners but the reality is most people wouldn't think of that. That's what I think, anyway.
I hope they will give you a new kitten. Make sure you take it straight to the vet to get checked out and make sure it's healthy. I hope the next one will be just as sweet and healthy as a horse! I wish you the best.
