inhaled vs injected anesthesia

inhaled vs injected anesthesia

this is something i learned about from a co-worker who used to work at a vet-others probably know more and can contribute. what she said ( i told her about Kali's tragic story-it really upset me) is that some vets use injected anesthesia, others use inhaled. the difference as far as the pet is concerned as she explained it to me is that w/inhaled if there's a problem w/inhaled it can be stopped immediately and the pet snaps right out of it and all is well which apparently isn't the case w/ inj. so you must ask the vet which they primarily use. i'm not sure you get to have an option, but you need to be informed about this choice. hope this info helps-if anyone is more informed-please jump in! again-prayers for Kali.

They use inhalation anesthesia at the shelter and then post surgery an injection that helps clear the anesthesia from the system.  It's not foolproof though.  We still lose one on the operating table once in a while, but they are mostly larger dogs who need a larger dose or cats who have a delayed reaction after surgery has begun.  We have been able to resusitate more than we have lost though.,
