kitten with dilated eyes

Hi so i recently took my friends kitten in he's around two months old i think and i noticed his eyes are constantly dilated. his pupils will get get bigger with excitment and when its darker. but they are always dilated and never shrink. after reading other posts im starting to worry. is it possible this is nothing to be worried about?

Can he see across the room or just up close?  Trinket's eyes will get huuuge is she's "hunting" something ususally my hand on the couch.  In any case it sounds as if this warrants a trip to the Vet filed under just to be sure.
