kitty cat likes to sleep with 4 month old son..

i have a question i breast feed my son and when i put him in this crib my 5yr old cat will jump in and lay above his head she will not bother him in anyway, she did this with my daughter that is 4 now i dont like it and i take her out of there all the time telling her no but i dont understand it. she mainly does this when i leave the room. is she doing this for protection for him or what do u all think. also she will lick everything of my sons like his toys car seat clothes and no there isnt anything spilt on them for her to do it. any ideas on what to do with my cat. i want her to stop or at least i want to no why she might be doing this.. thanks

I would make sure she stays out of his room, not only because of the concern about her smothering him but also because she's getting cat hair everywhere and that can't be good for him to be breathing in. I'm sure she'd never intentionally hurt him but I'd keep his bedroom door closed and keep her out if it were me.
My oldest son is allergic to cats so we have to keep his bedroom door closed and he has to wash his hands after petting the cat. (We found this out after we had pets and this is what the doctor said to do because my son didn't want to give up his pets.)
Also, cat saliva can be irritating to the skin too. Babies skin is pretty sensitive.
I don't know why she's doing it. It could be she feels protective. It could be that she smells the milk on him and his things and she's attracted to that. Cat's sense of smell is pretty good.
I'm not sure if any of this helps or not!
How's he doing, by the way? Is he eating better? I know you were concerned about that. I hope all's well at your end! :)

he has been eatting better, i stopped the cereal and im full again and hes much happier, he is teething right now so he bits alot and chews on everything. but still crys here and there when it is time for a feeding.. thanks april. cats r crazy at times they do the weridest stuff my daughters cat play fetch with her he even brings it back 2 be thrown again, hes like a dog lol. with my other cat the one thats been acting out, i have been closing the door and not allowing her or other cats in.

I have a new kitten who thinks she's a dog, too! :) She's crazy! She dashes around the house at top speed. She jumps up on my counters (drives me crazy). The other night she jumped up on the counter while we were eating dinner and took a meatball out of a pan that was on the counter and was munching on it! She likes human food! My other cat wouldn't think of eating anything human except maybe some tuna! We have a soft ball sized soft ball that we will throw and she will chase after it like a dog! LOL! She's so funny.

Ok, now I know this cat is crazy. I just glanced up and caught her jumping from the kitchen counter with an oreo in her mouth! I had to chase her down and grab it from her! Apparently my daughter left the cookies out on the counter. ARRRGGG!!!! She's driving me crazy!!!

Although it did look kind of cute and funny to see her with that cookie in her mouth! :D

my cats are in love with human food lol i have 3 of them and 2 of them go crazy over it. i give them scraps everyonce in a while and if its meat you have to cut it up small or else they wont eat it. my one cat loves veggies and thats all she eats. well other than cat food.
what kind of litter box do u have. i bought the one that scoops it all into a box and thats all you have to empty its nice but at time annoying because u hear it turn on and off its loud at times.. i am an animal lover i wanted to be a vet but when it comes to surgry i couldnt do it so it wouldnt be for me. lol. its funny when cats do stuff like that but also not fun because then you get all that cat hair onto your tables and its gross. i dont allow my cats to do and if i see it i say hey and they look atm e and jump done lol its funny there are so much like kids...

I just have a regular litter box with the lid and a door for them to climb through. I've always been afraid if I bought the kind that cleans itself that one of the cats would get caught or traumatized somehow with it! I also use the clumping litter and have to clean the boxes every day, UGH! Especially since I am fostering a mama cat and three kittens right now. They go through a lot of poop! So I clean the box like 3 or 4 times a day. It's getting a bit tiresome. I'm the only one who does it. Say.....want a kitten? I gotta find homes for them! :)

Lol! Do you want to know what that dumb kitten did this time?! My husband ran a bubble bath for my trhee year old and then went looking for him. Next thing I know I look over and the cat (she's 4 months old) was soaking wet and frantically licking herself. My daughter and I looked at each other and we were like "What the heck? How did she get soaking wet?" She was standing in the doorway to the bathroom so I opened the door all the way to get a towel for her and that's when I noticed the tub and remembered that my husband had drawn the bath. Apparently, she got curious and jumped in! I don't think she was too happy, though! Ha, ha! I can't believe this cat! I wonder what the silly thing will do next! :D

my cat used to do that alot, also they like to drink out of the toliet werid ones. there will be fresh water in there dish but its never good enough they like the toilet better, thats just gross... lol.

Guys, please help me. My bf has been having allergies. His skin gets really itchy and dark red but I don't want to give up my kitty. He is adorable and also crazy. I just love him. I know the problem is his saliva. My bf has had many cats and has never been allergic to any of them....BUT HE IS ALLERGIC TO MINE !! My little one wont sleep on his bed but by my side under my bed so he is really attached to his mama. Should I take him to the vet? I bought my kitten a lotion that's called Cat Allergy Relief and my bf's skin has improved. This only happens whenever he touches my cat. Can you guys recommend me do something? My cat is still a baby so if I take him out of my room he'll start crying and it just hurts me and plus he wont let anyone sleep. I told bf not to touch kitten but he likes it so much he says he cannot have a pet and not touch it. :(

I have the automatic litter box and there is no way your cat could get caught by it. It has a sensor that once the movement stops in it for 2 minutes(I think) it will run.  There is also a bar on it that if the sensor misfires and it goes with someone in it and it touches them- it automatically stops and reverses.  It's all plastic so if something 1 in a million happens, they won't get hurt physically- maybe emotionally.  My 3 cats all use it- 2 are great with it.  The 3rd is a flake and any movement scares her to pieces and she is used to it.  She will use it, and if she is in the room when it runs she jumps- but once she realizes what it was, she is okay with it.  When I first got it, she hissed at it and watched how cats do when they are not sure what's going on, but she got used to it within a day or two and it didn't scare her off enought that she won't use it.  The only downfall I see to it, is that you can only have about an inch and a half of litter in it at a time, and if you overfill it, it runs and runs and runs trying to get it smooth- kind of annoying....

Boy, this is tough. If he really is allergic I don't know what more you can do than you already have done. My 19 year old son is allergic to dogs and cats. We didn't know until we already had them and then got him tested. The doctor said to keep the animals out of his room and that he should wash his hands after petting them. He also takes allergy medicine that helps. I don't know what else to suggest to you.
Try posting a new question and ask Savas what he thinks. He works with cats and may have suggestions I didn't think of. Good luck!

Well, he was taking clariten and flownase for awhile and then we started him on the allergy shots. The allergy shots seem to work really well. It's just a bit of a pain to have to keep going in and getting it done.

i have no clue what to tell you bedtimestory, that would suck if that happened to me i a an animal lover and i could never do that. there is benidrel sp? that you can get at any store you can try that it might do something, but like april says u are doing everything from the sounds.. good luck and im sorry that i am no help i used to be alleric myself when i was little but i got over it, i didnt take meds i just got itchy bad and my parents kept me away for a while then when i was 16 i got my first cat and i have not had any problems with her so it must have went away..

aligator: thatas great i no what you are talking about with that machine mine did that once and it was so loud and annoying it wouldnt stop finilly i looked at it and relized my bf overfilled it and thats what was cause it.. i love that little box... but it is loud at times..
