my cat has a deep wide open hole in her nipple where abcess broke

my 15 yr old spayed female cat had abig hard lump on her nipple that looks like it burst leaving a good sized deep hole. I believe she had an abcess although the vet had indicated to me that she may have cancer. How do I treat my cat to help the abcess area heal now that it is draining?It has a very fowl odor as well. Help please.

Hi, I am so sorry that you and your kitty are going through this.  I really don't think there's a surgical treatment for that abscess, I had a cat that had the open sores from breast cancer, too.  My vet gave us some ointment and some pain meds to keep her comfortable.

Why not give your vet a call, and they can suggest a good prescription cream and maybe get her on some pain meds?  I really wish there were more options for our babies!

so sad when we get a dx like this one, poor kitty....honey didn't the Vet you consulted give you some advice on how to proceed?
it does sound very much like mammary cancer, the thing is with a cancerous abscess opening and draining there isn't any likely hood of getting the area to heal....what she needs is surgical removal of the nipple, however perhaps you were told its too late for surgical intervention.(?)
your Vet is the best one to ask this question of, he needs to give her something for pain at least and perhaps has some suggestions for helping her out?
