my male black tiger cat is losing hair

My husband and I adopted a male black tiger cat from the humane society when he was about 10 weeks old. That was on June 29, 2010. About 8 months later he had a big sore on the back of his shoulder that we have no idea where it came from. He has lost the hair around this area and it never grew back. Now he is losing hair around his neck to where that is bald but there is no sore in this area. He is running around and eating like he would always do. He is an inside cat and the only one we have he has no flees. we feed him Purina kitten chow and he loves soft food like 9 lives and fancy feast which he also gets two cans a day as well as dry food all the time with two water bowls one in his room and the other by the kitchen which I change every morning. We live in an apt in temple terrace fl and our on city water. We have no kids and lots of room for him. He has his own room lol. Can some please tell me what might be going on?

my grandparents outside cat is having problems. her fur is all dry and not shinny like it usually is. She has patches where there isn't any fur. The weird thing is that she's drinking and eating lots like usually. What can I do to help her. PS my grandpa says she has a bigger tummy.

here is a good site that lists ALL the causes of hair loss in cats.....
(I just condone the use of steroids as this can lead to other health problems)...

I would suspect an allergy either to something in your apartment(airborne) or to his food. the foods you are feeding are full of additives to make the taste sooooo good to cats. no wonder they love those brands.
I would change to a better quality brand. with no grain, I stress this often, so many skin diseases are caused by the additives or the grains in these over the counter foods..
also do not use any chemicals in your apartment, could be scents....hairspray, cleaners, candles, laundry detegents etc.....along with changing my cats food I stopped using as many scented products as possible, I clean everything with vinegar and baking soda.
give him a good amino acid, omega 3 product for his skin. I use an extra pinch of TAURINE in my kitties food, another member recently adds flaxseed.
I'm also trying KRILL oil supplements....cats need a good source of OM3.
I will give you a site that lists all the good brand of cat foods.....CANS please(more moisture, less additives)
the list is further down on the doctors article, commercial foods WITHOUT grain and a few good ones with.

welcome to our site, please post as often as you like and let us know if any of this info has helped. good luck...♥
