helpinutah - do your main coons back talk? if venus is getting yelled at for doing something wrong she actually talks back.
she actually HID her brush. i've been looking for it all morning. i have no clue what she did with it. she's such a snot sometimes. stubborn isn't the word for her. she is the most hot headed cat i've ever had. the brush we have has the harder bristles but her fur is so thick that a soft brush would never work. i'm starting to think maybe professional grooming would help save my arms from being turned into hamburger lol.
Heather,
Our kitty doesn't love to be brushed either, but she tolerates it. Our neighbor next door used what looks like a "horse" brush on his dog and I looked and found one for cats. It has teeth on both sides and works wonders! Definitely should be done outside though as the fur goes flying. It doesn't pull her fur either like the original brush we had.
Just a suggestion. And I probably didn't describe that brush very well, just don't know how else to describe. It's metal and open in the middle with teeth all around.
Heather:
We have 3 Maine Coons and only one of them (my mother's cat) likes to be groomed. The other two are horrible. They do the same thing - cry and cry like I'm killing them. Daisy is deaf and she will bite at me (never breaks the skin) and hisses. Abby cries and hisses and then she'll bite me really hard. I have never been able to get those two used to grooming. I'm getting them lion cuts this year! I don't want to fight with them anymore! Daisy is completely white and her fur is horrible. It's really thick and course and it mats so easily. Every now and then we have to get the pet razor out and shave the mats off her. Luckily, Abby doesn't mat as easily. I have asked my friend who breeds them if this is normal and she said it is. Maine Coons are extremely bright and if they don't want something done they are extremely stubborn. A friend said once Daisy has the loin's cut done, her fur will come in softer and easier to manage. I hope so! LOL!!!!
Good luck!!!!
venus' sister and brother (not her litter mates) LOVE being brushed. they actually drag their brush to my mom and ask to be brushed. i'm sure soon venus will start hiding her brush. as soon as she sees it she takes off like a bat out of h3ll and hides. i've been trying to brush her everyday (she's got a whole lotta fur) but......i get sections done. lol. yesterday i managed to get the belly. my arms look like hamburger but her belly is tangle free.
AH! The classic. My older doesn’t like being brushed either. So, what I do is I give him treats or wait for feeding time. During feeding time he will not care what the heck you do to him. So, he associates the brush with food, yummy….so he lets me brush him only when he is eating and NOT everywhere. He has his conditions and terms. But at least I get to rid him of loose hair, and my furniture and carpet also benefit from it.
My younger just starts purring when he sees the brush!!
