orphan kitten 4-5wks old stuffy nose&sneezing.im really worried plz help.

i found my kitten (her names miracle) in an alley one nite so i took her home. she was really skinny&dirty with crustys on her eye. i decided to foster her. shes about 4-5wks, when i got her she was about 3. i got her to the vet a few days later, she had conjunctivitus&an upper respitory problem. the vet gave me meds for her eyes, than for 10days meds that i gave miracle with a syringe. and ive already her gotten her dewormed. hey eyes cleared up fine and it seemed like she didn't have upper resp. problems becuz she became very playful, ate well and just seemed perfectly fine. until about a week ago she started sneezing quite a bit, my mom didnt think it was necessary to take her to the vet, well now miracles nose is stuffy, to the point where she sits there an keeps blowin in&out from her nose to try to clear it. and shes still sneezing. but shes still playful an is eating&drinkin her milk. one thing she doesnt do is drinking her water by herself, i end up having to give her some in a syringe. i want to take her to the vet but my mom keeps procrastinating. what do you think is wrong with my miracle? and how do i help her clear her stuffy nose. i cant lose my baby, idk what i wud do if i did. shes eveything to me! plz help!!

I hope I made it clear just to take her INTO the steamy room with you....do NOT put her in the shower!!!!!.......this would be extremely dangerous....I sometimes don't explain things very well...♥

I know your going to try your best honey, and we wish you and miracle our prayers...

if you syringe anything into a kitty's mouth too quickly than they don't swallow properly and can inhale it into their lungs...it has to be done slowly and give them lots of time to swallow...this will cause alot of choking and wheezing breathing than pneumonia,..so no I don't think this is what happened.
I think its the URI too. this comes about by a kitty having the herpes virus...and gives similar symptoms to a human flu.
It can also spread to the eyes and this is why she has pink eyes...

you can put a very small amount of vaseline on her nose to help the dryness...just be very careful not to plug her nostrils..just rub a very tiny amount on the surface and massage it in a little.

I know its sometimes hard to come up with money for a Vet visit....sometimes a clinic will let you pay a part of the bill each month instead of all at once..can ask.
its very important you get her on the L-lysine too, so this doesn't keep reoccurring so severely.

thank you <3
i havent continued syringing her, i had only done it a few times. i didn't know i could get water in her lungs like that, when shes sleeping i listen to her breath, for the most part it sounds fine but than ill hear a lil wheezing which concerns me now if i got water in her lungs. what do i do about that? is she gunna be okay till i can take her to the vet?

i think thats what she has, upper resp. disease cuz when i took her to the vet for her first time they gave me antibiotics for an upper resp. infection.
and first thing tomorrow im gunna start doin the shower steam to help her breathing. it sounds like that will help alot, thank you so much!
im gunna have my mom buy the stuff to help strengthen her immune system and get her some vitamins or something.

her eyes seem to have a lil pink around them, is that normal? and what can i put on her nose so it isnt so dry?

And thank you. im doing my best to take care of her and keep her well. im home with her pretty much all day and nite. i do all that i can, its just hard cuz im 18 and me an my mom have lil money. but miracle has become like a child to me so i am going to make sure she gets the best.

good for you taking this little girl in and looking after her so well...I'm a little concerned that you may have gotten some water into her lungs while syringing her? does she sound wheezy or congested? Like maaskant said you shouldn't worry abt the water just yet, not if she is drinking milk..and if she is eating canned food because it has plenty of water in already...so I wouldn't continue with the syringing.

its common for orphaned kittens to have an upper respiratory disease a form of the herpes virus....with an undeveloped immune system a secondary upper respiratory INFECTION (URI) can develop and than your kitten will absolutely need to see a Vet for an antibiotic or this can progress quickly an be fatal (sorry I don't want to scare you...but you need to know the truth)

meanwhile to help with her breathing, take her into the bathroom wiht you and shut the door....sit on the floor with her and run the shower on hot for about 5minutes so the room is good and steamy....sit in there with her for abt 30minutes...so she can breath in the hot steamy air. do this 2-3x a day.

even after seeing the Vet, and even if kitty is on antibiotics she will also need something to strengthen her immune system to fight off this virus or it will keep happening over and over again. you need to buy her some L-lysine an amino acid, you can get this thru your Vet. or buy it from a human vitamin supply store. the one that is best for cats is in the link I will give you below, your mom can order this for you it is very cheap only $4.50 for a jar, and $4 for shipping. it comes in a powder, you'll need to measure out 1/4 teaspoon per day and mix in her food or mix with a dab of water and give her by syringe....if you can't order the one I am saying is the best than buy some from a good vitamin store, just be very sure it is FREE of sugar/salt/soy/corn/artificial colors and preservatives..

copy and paste this link.

http://www.iherb.com/Carlson-Labs-L-Lysine-Amino-Acid-Powder-100-g/13608

your Vet will agree this is a very good supplement to help your kitty with her immune system.
have your mom read this and tell her how important this kitten is too you and I'm sure she'll be willing to help, since you've done such an outstanding job in rescuing her thus far...we can tell how much you love her already...tell your mom its also important that she does go see the Vet b/c she very likely needs an antibiotic.

please post again and let us know how you are making out and how kitty is...we all wish you the very best honey♥

having a kitten that wont drink water on her own at that age isnt really a big thing.  she will start drinking on her own soon.  the water in the formula is enough to keep her hydrated.  just keep water out for her and she will start drinking.  as far as her runny nose goes as long as she is still playfull and doesnt seem to be having issues breathing then she is probably fine.  i have a kitten that is sneezing also and has a runny nose.  its probably allergies.  keep an eye on her and if she looks like she is having issues breathing or if she stops being playfull and doesnt want to eat then take her to the vet.
