panting/coughing

Please know that coughing (unles it's a hairball) or panting is NOT  ok in your cat. We had an upper resp, virus go through our house and 2 cats were fine. The 3rd I thought had mucus in his throat or trouble breathing due to stuffy nose like the rest and didn't realise his distress till he coughed up a frightening gob of green phlegm. Bob spent last night @ the vet w/pneumonia. happily  (so far-say prayers for my boy) all signs looking good for him and he's coming home tonight. Had i known the coughing and panting were signs of distress I would have acted much sooner and I feel terrible for my cat's unnecessary and preventable suffering. If I can prevent this happening to one of your babies just by spreading a little knowledge, I'll be so glad. Good thoughts for Bob, please.

I'm sorry your cat was sick but glad he's doing better and scheduled to come home soon!  Out cat pants when no one's sick, and we've assumed it was a hairball.  But it sounds pretty scary when she does.  If someones sick, I hope I remember that panting doesn't always mean hairball in a cat!

Bob is home but not out of the woods. He's responding to meds but still has a bluish palate  which may indicate a weak heart that didn't show previously that's having trouble handling the stress of the pneumonia. We're to keep him quiet and pampered and call vet in am to let him know how he's doing. Thank God we didn't lose him and I'll do everything in my power to keep him healthy and happy-good thoughts and prayers please!!!
