sick kitten

i have a 13 wk old kitten that we got when she was 8 wks old. she had all of her shots and was a indoor kitty that had tested neg for feluke. she started running a fever a few days ago , i took her to vet he said he thought she had an abcess (abscess) that hadn't surfaced yet though i guess because he couldnt find anything else wrong he also repeated the feluk test and it again was neg. i took her back yesterday and he kept her overnight gave her fluids , b12 shot and done a cbc. he called this morning and said her cbc was high indicating a infection her temp with the new antibiotic was down to 104 but still high . i'm afraid if they don't find out what is wrong soon i'm gonna lose her. i would appreciate any help out there suggestions anything . i'm beginning to think this vet doesn't know what he's doing or doesn't realize how much a part of the family this kitten already is . we love her like our children. who are by the way 3 girls 16,15, and 5 . the five year old doesn't understand and thinks rowdy will never come home. thank you .

Well, first of all I'm sorry to hear about your kitty.  I know how traumatic this kind of thing is.

Anything I can think of has probably been thought of by your vet.  FeLV, FIV and FIP can all cause this kind of thing.

Just because the kitty tests neg for FeLV it doesn't mean that she doesn't have it.  I believe that there are some rare cases when the disease can only be found by a bone marrow test.

Dry form FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) could be a cause.  It is caused by certain strains of coronavirus, which is most often not a problem, but can range from being an irritant to being fatal.  FIP often causes persistent fever that doesn't respond to antibiotic therapy and it is sometimes difficult to diagnoses, since it's symptoms are similar to other diseases.

However, I'm not a vet and I would imagine that these have been thought of and dealt with, tested for or ruled out.

I really hope this helps some and I wish you all the best.

We're here if you have any other questions at all.
