Hi FurballsMom,
Thank you very much for replying to my question. I never even thought
of a cat being allergic to dust, but of course this is totally possible.
You say your cat is allergic to dust. I have environmental allergies too
and many years ago an allergist gave me an allergy test which indicated
that I'm allergic to house dust. If and when you are able to buy air cleaner
for your apartment, I would recommend one made by Honeywell which
has a heap filter built in and is easy to clean. I'm a retired school teacher
and I used to use it in my classroom as there was a big dust issue problem in my classroom. Anyway, we now have it in our living room and it is helpful. It was purchased from Costco a number of years ago now.
I wish you and your kitty, Akira, the very best. Eve
Hi shannon781,
Thank you very much for responding to my question. When Sammy's
eye does water which is very occasionally, I would describe this as
mild and clear. This morning his eye is not tearing at all. I found the
information you provided in your comments very helpful and if I ever
see coloration to the fluid, I will take him to our vet right away. Eve
Hi My YoungatHeart ,
Thank you so much for responding to my question about our dear Sammy..
His eyes are fine this morning, no tearing. This doesn't happen every
morning, just occasionally. MewMew is such a sweet name for a kitty.
I'm glad to hear MewMew's eye has healed. Eve
Akira gets like this sometimes, because, like me, she has environmental allergies. I'm pretty sure she is allergic to dust, which I don't have a lot of control to get rid of as thoroughly as I would like to. I really need to get an air cleaner for the apartment, but I don't have enough money to get one. With Akira I know it's environmental allergies, because she scratches her ears more when the dust is bothering her. Her eyes are always weepy when she scratches like this. When she is scratching so much that I can't get her to stop, I give her 1/4 tablet of an adult dose of Zyrtec. This works for Akira. I always wait until I can't get her to stop scratching, because I don't like giving her anything at all.
MewMew scratched her cornea and the first symptom was tears from the eye, but as an uneducated guess, I would think that both eyes would be from an upper resp that he is in the beginning stages of. I first thought to let MewMew and her body heal itself, but the more I read and the worse her tears got with green matter and her eye actually shutting along with her inability to keep her eyes open in the daytime, I took her in and got some real inexpensive cream that I put in her eyes for 10 days and there have been no replays of problems...The down trend from watery eyes to green matter happened in the space of a day, they do tend to go into full illness rather quickly....I also learned not to fool around with eye problems, one bad eye can affect the eyesight of both eyes and can in its worse case cause blindness.....
Good luck Eve and let us know how its going....
