Anyone out there with dermatitis herpetiformis?

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune) and am in the process of being worked up for Celiac's as well. I've had one of the antibody levels drawn which was positibe, but haven't had the colonoscopy for villous sampling yet.

I get eczema type rashes frequently and am wondering if this is actually DH. The occur on my knuckles, the outer side of my hands, my wrist, buttocks, and on the backs of my legs. I get it on average once a month in one location or another and it does seem like it gets more frequent in the warmer months. The rash is usually reddish, very itchy, and sometimes has clear blisters with it. Occasionally it actually looks reddish-purple or like there is some bruising with it. Sometimes it's not red, but just a cluster of non-itchy clear blisters that are pretty asymptomatic. It goes away on it's own in 2-5 days only to appear a month or two later in a different location. I would have thought that if this is DH it would be more widespread--- i.e., present in multiple locations at once, not just in one spot at a time.

Does that sound like DH? Anybody got any pics?

Yeah it sounds like it could be DH. DH can actually have a few different appearances dependant uppon it's current severity. Many people have had DH that does not look like the photos. There does not have to be a large amount (there can be a small amount on just your hands for instance) and it can come and go. Try putting Burt's Bees Hand Repair Creme on it and avoiding contact with chemicals and fragrances. (Natural fragrances in organic products are often just fine).
