Dermatitis Herpetiformis cured?

Dermatitis Herpetiformis cured?

My daughter was diagnosed with DH by blood test a few years ago at age 18.  She stayed off gluten for the most part and would continue to notice symptoms occasionally, when she would "cheat."  She got married two months ago and started eating a lot of products with gluten and didn't get the usual symptoms (itchy bumps on her knees, elbows, etc.)  So, she has continued to eat without restrictions.  She has complained of stomach aches a few times.  Is it possible that she's not sensitive to gluten anymore, or is it more likely that she is having the internal symptoms? Just wondering if people with DH or gluten allergies ever "grow out" of them.  Thank-you so much!

As far as I know the dermatitis herpetiformis is an autoimmune response to the gluten sensitivity. As is celiac sprue. I would suggest staying off gluten forever.
I was told I had athletes foot my whole life.
Now that I'm 39 and just found out that I am gluten intolerant,I also have celiac sprue and
osteoperosis from it. Thats 39 years of damage.
I would suggest that she stay completely gluten free, because when she feels that pain in her stomach, she is destroying the villi in her intestines.
I would also tell her to have a DEXA scan for bone density, while she is young enough to
reverse osteoperosis.
If she stays gluten free, she will feel like a different person in a month.
PS If you are a beer drinker    Best gluten free beer is Redbridge from Anhieser Bush
Best of luck    Keep us informed

I had Celiac my whole life but I didn't always have DH. It would come and go. Gluten sensitivity is very likely to cause a large amount of damage to her body before she starts showing symptoms. Here's a compromise. She should have her doctor check for vitamin B and vitamin D deficiencies. It's a simple blood test. Vitamin deficiencies might be one of the first signs that her gut is being damaged by gluten. In any case, this subject should not be dropped. She probably should never eat gluten for the rest of her life, but it is hard to tell an adult that, especially someone young who wants to live a normal life and has not yet felt any convincing consequenses.
