Extremely low stomach acid- celiacs?

I have been taking large quantities of betaine HCL with pepsin for about 2 years to deal with extremely low stomach acid. An endoscope and tests for h-pylori show no problems. My doctor does not seem to know what the cause of this problem could be but her latest guess is celiacs disease. It will cost me a significant amount of money to have this test done and I am told the results are often unreliable. Could celiacs cause my extremely low stomach acid? Are the tests reliable? I have no other typical celiacs symptoms to suggest I could be gluten intolerant. I am tired of treating symptoms so any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I have no stomach acid production, and have been on HCL in high doses for 3 years now. I don't have the funds to pay for the antibodiy tests to determin this was likely caused by my autoimmune problems. I suggest if you have money or insurance to get the anti-garstrin and antiparitial cell antibody tests to see if your immune system has gone after your stomach glands that make acid(paritial cells). I hope to get a volunteer medical organization to pay for this testing very soon. Feel free to send me a private message. I know how much this complicates ones life!

I am right there with you as well. I was diagnosed with Celiac in Feb 2011 and have been seeing a naturopath for the last 4 months and have been having to do the large doses of hcl w/pepsin capsules as well. I only have one symptom--heavy bloating. My naturopath agrees this is just a bandaid and tried to get me on something else but it did not work and I stopped taking it after 10 days of straight bloating. Back to the hcl and within 5 days was bloat free for again. Now waiting for my next appt to see what the next steps should be. I read somewhere that low iodine could be a cause, but need to look into that more before spreading any education on about it, but could be worth looking into. I was going to ask my naturopath about it.. I will post more if I make any progress. Please do the same. Good luck!
