HOW SERIOUS IS CELIAC DISEASE

by katrina39, Oct 01, 2009 03:27AM
I WAS BORN WITH CELIAC DISEASE BUT IT DID NOT BECOME APPARENT UNTIL AGE 55. AT THAT TIME I WAS VERIFIED WITH CELIAC SPRUE BY A BLOOD TEST AND SMALL INTESTINAL BIOPSY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS NOW FOR THREE YEARS, AND HAVE NOTICED SOME WEIRD CHANGES IN THE WAY I FEEL AND ACT. MY GI DOCTOR HAS TOLD ME THAT MY LEVELS HAVE JUST NOW GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE HEALING CAN NOW BEGIN, HOWEVER BECAUSE I HAVE HAD THIS ALL MY LIFE, IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME FOR THIS PROCESS TO TAKE PLACE. I HAVE BEEN ON A STRICT GLUTEN FREE DIET, I HAVE BECOME INTOLERANT TO ALL DAIRY PRODUCTS AND SOY. I HAVE CONSTANT ABDOMINAL PAIN ALTHOUGH ALL TESTS SEEM TO INDICATE THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE. I HAVE LOST MY APPETITE, MY SENSE OF TASTE, I AM VERY FATIGUED, I HAVE CHILLS, NAUSEA, BECOME VERY IRRITABLE AT THE DROP OF A PIN, CAN'T SLEEP, AND JUST GENERALLY FEEL LIKE MY LIFE HAS BECOME OUT OF CONTROL. MY GI DOCTOR DOES NOT SEEM TO TAKE MY SYMPTOMS SERIOUSLY, AND I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE HANDLING OF MY CONDITION. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT, AND I AM ASKING IF ANYONE WHO HAS THIS CONDITION HAS EXPERIENCED ANYTHING SIMILIAR TO WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH? I FEEL LIKE I AM RAPIDLY LOSING CONTROL BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY, AND HAVE HONESTLY FELT LIKE DEATH IS A BETTER OPTION THAN TO CONTINUE LIVING LIKE THIS. MY DIET HAS BECOME SO LIMITED THAT I HAVE AN AVERSION NOW TO FOOD, SO I EAT ONLY ONCE A DAY IF THAT. I ALSO HAVE THIS TERRIBLE FEAR OF GAINING WEIGHT, AND I HAVE TWO OTHER AUTOIMMUNE CONDITIONS BESIDES THIS CELIAC DISEASE. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME DIRECTION OR HELP? HOW LIFE THREATENING CAN THIS DISEASE BE?

Hi, you are not alone, hang in there. I'm 46 yrs old, being diabetic for 45 yrs, I was diagnosed with celiac and gerd about 2 months ago. I know what you are going through. My nephew is 23, diabetic since he was 4, autistic, diagnosed with celiac and gerd about a year ago, also lactose intolerant. The diet is limited,  yes, but you have to give yourself some time to get use to it. Do you live alone? One thing that has helped me a lot is my husband's support. You need somebody that can be there for you, support you, encourage you????Find out if there's a support group in your area.
This is what I do I take 2 capsules a day of a natural product (probiotics) called SuperShield. I found this on this website by Sherry Brescia and it has help me a lot greattastenopain.com it's very interesting. I also take another natural product from the company called 4Life it also has probiotics and other things. Let me know how it goes

I'm a 59 year old male. I also have celica. I first had my gallbladder removed in 2001.
However, I was still getting worse. I've had every test known. My doctor finally ran a
bood pannel, and I was diagnosed with celiac in 2006. There is life after getting your
system back in order. Don't give up. eveyone goes through bad spells. I let my gaurd
down this summer, now I'm going in for my 3 year check by having my endoscopy and
colon checked as well. Just remember, there is help out there. Please go to this web
page for help. (cut and paste) : http://stanford.wellsphere.com/celiac-disease-article/is-there-another-test-i-can-do-for-celiac-or-gluten-and-dairy-allergy/515726
