For some celiacs oats in general can be a problem. Oats contain a small protein that is similar to the one most celiacs react to, but some celiacs can eat oats. Others can't. The problem with oats, in general, is they can be contaminated during transport or storage becuase the same trucks or storage facilities that carry other grains or store them can also be used for oats. If you want to use oats, you may want to check out www.glutenfreeoats.com. It's a farms that makes sure their oats are not contaminated. I believe it started out as a 4H project and turned into a business. My husband has celiac and it appears one of the few places we can get oats that don't bother his system.
bob's red mill carries wheat free non-cross contaminated oats. they aren't really cheap, but as I am pretty sensitive to crosss contamination, I can have a large bowl and no side effects, so I recommend them.
