eosinophilic disorder (EGID

by Dave080443, Jan 11, 2009 10:31PM
I child of 10 has been diagnosed with eosinophilic disorder (EGID.  Based on my limited research, my question is: does he possibly have an occult gluten intolerance and perhaps misdiagnosed and instead have Celiac Disease?
Thank you.

an Eosinphilic Gastrointestinal disease has to do w/the Eos, not a reaction to sprue.  The gold standard for both EGID and Celiac is a biopsy.  In celiac there will be atrophy to the villa, in an EGID there will be elevated levels of Eosinphils.

IF you said 1 of 10 children has an EGID..that is completely incorrect.  IT is a VERY rare disease.   My daughter has cell-mediated allergies and Eosinphilic proctocolitis nad eosinphilic gastroenteritis.

for info on EGID's look up apfed.org
