liver function tests and celiacs disease

My 14 yr old son has had some abnormal LFTs over last 3 months with nausea ,abdominal pain and some jaundice. Nothing dramatic but enough to make him feel ill. His total bilirubin has ranged from 90-29 (Currently 40), alkaline phosphatse from 250-140(currently 240 and creatinine protein from 60-5(currently 5). AllHep tests were negative/as was a scan  so it was decided he had a viral hepatitis.
my mother has celiacs disease as did my brother.I have signs but chose not to get tested and just followed a gluten free diet.My son has never been tested but has  always developed  the same kind of response if he includes gluten in his diet for longer than a few weeks. He gets abdo pain, mouth sores and boils and diarhoea and constipation. In June he ate gluten over a period of time.just before it all started.he began to recover but in august went on holiday with friends and didnt follow a gluten free diet. He began to feel ill shortly after and is now slighly jaundiced again and very very tired.
Is it a co-incidence? Is there a link?he has just hit adolescence .Is that significant?

Anyone shed any light for me?
Thanks
MJ

Sounds to me as if you already know the answer. He has Celiac's and needs to stay on a gluten free diet. Even after he feels better he cannot have gluten. I know this is not easy especially for children and all the wonderful food that is out there.

I don't know anything about jaundice with this but he has all the other classic symtoms (symptoms) of Celiac and really needs to follow the diet. There are some great websites out there on foods you can eat and not eat. Barley, malt, and sometimes oats are off the list. Many sauces and foods contain these extra extracts  you must read all labels.

If you have been gf for a long time and then get some gluten the reaction is sometimes stronger because your body has been healing and has not had the tolerance built up. Hope he feels better soon.

thanks for taking time to answer...you r right I do know answer deep down.Question is do I get the formal diagnosis sorted for my boy? Since posting this Ive discovered that coeliacs can open the door to all sorts of auto immune diseases and I should get this formally set up to help my boy in the future.(a sort of medical clue in case he gets problems later..like with liver..it might have been recognised ) However he is very against all the intervention and I dont blame him.He will, at the least, have to eat gluten for 4-6 weeks before testing and he is physically low right now...

Any how I really appreciated your time
Thanks
