worse on GF diet

I have had celiac disease for 9 months and have been faithful to the diet. My labs are normal now, although a recent endoscopy showed increased lymphocytes. My symptoms were great the first month, then came back worse than ever. Has anyone else experienced this?

Debola, my husband had some of what you're describing happen. We later found out he's cross-reactive to casein, the major protein in dairy. It's a problem that can occur with celiacs. In addition, start a food diary. It's not unusual to find out that there are other food items that can be problematic.

I started on the gf diet about 11 months ago & initially I felt *awful*. I definitely got worse -- more stomach pain, nausea, insomnia, mood swings, extreme hunger, fatigue, and the list goes on and on. Anyway, for months and months I felt like I was making no progress & wanted to give up, and then all of a sudden, around month 10, I *really* began to feel better. Anyway, I'm beginning to feel fabulous & I am so excited. I haven't felt this good in *years*.

Hang in there! I think it just takes a while for your body to clear everything out or maybe it is some kind of detox reaction. Double-check too that your cosmetics & shampoo, etc. are gluten-free (I buy a brand from Whole Foods that is labeled gluten-free) and try not eating out at all for a while, b/c you may be getting cross-contamination or hidden sources.
