20 month old not talking nor walking without support

by Mommie_2KalebnKeyon, Aug 07, 2009 09:02PM
My stepson will be 2 Dec. 2nd and I am kind of worried about his development. He didn't start holding his bottle until he was 10 mos, started crawling 3 weeks before his 1st birthday, and now he can only walk with the aide of something or someone. I was just wondering could it be Cerebral Palsy his mother told us once before that the doctor thinks he might have it but now shes changed the story. What I'm not understanding is he cant even talk really he only can say "ganma" for grandma, uh-oh, and huh that's it. Isn't children his age at the point where they can say about 10 to 15 words if not more than that? I just need a little incite because she wont tell us anything. So what should we do should we take him to get him checked or just let her do whatever it is that she claims she's doing?!

He could just be a late bloomer....but never hurts to get him checked out...Only because if it is something he can get therapies he may need like pt or ot...best of luck

hello my name is angela. My son is a left sided hemiplegic cp patient. i found out formally hwn he was about twoish. same thing with your stepson. Usually they have early intervention programs in every county that will come to your house and evaluate his developmental milestones and see if he is far behind. NO he is not a late bloomer. like crabby said. there is something wrong be it low environmental stimulation muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy. my son is now 8 and everyone told me" he just right hand dominant" or " hes taking his time" but me being his mother i always knew. the important thing is to get him diagnosed as SOON as possible because there is a number of things doctors and therapist can do to support him. Like in my situation i did not get an early start and my sons foot is deformed due to the way he was walking on it. my advice is to get him evaluated asap.:)
