Ankle clonus /possible seizures

My son is 5 weeks old.  I have been concerned for a few weeks that he does not look at our faces and I wondered if he could see. He also rolls his eye s upward into his head (as he is falling alseep.  )  We wondered if this could be a seizure? The pediatrician sent us to an opthamologist and he said his eyes were ok. Could the lack of eye contact indicate a problem at this early age?  At his one month checkup the MD detected ankle clonus.  I have noticed it bilaterally , though not occurring at the same time for 1-4 seconds at a time.  Is this ever normal?   Or are we most likely looking at CP?

My son was the same at that age he also did the eye rolling which is quite creepy to watch, I don't know if it is a coincedence but my son was later diagnosed with cp.  Just keep a check on him and make sure he is aquiring his milestones at the right age,

It does sound as though he might have CP although a million other conditions could have the same symptoms.  He is still very small.  My son also rolls his eyes back and does suffer seizures - when he does this, it is not a seizure.  Rather be safe than sorry and ask for an EEG - at least then you will know if he has seizures or not.  I don't want to worry you unneccesary, but I would strongly suggest you ask your doctor for a neurological check up and possible referral to a paediatric neurologist - bear in mind he is very small still and diagnosing CP can take ages.  Any abnormal movements should always be evaluated.  Good luck to you, you are in my thoughts

Hi.
How is your son doing?
In the pediatric population, there are so-called primitive reflexes.  These reflexes should disappear as one ages.  These should not be present anymore in adults.
I’m not sure if what you are noticing in your son are the primitive reflexes.  I think it would be best to have him seen by a pediatric neurologist for proper evaluation.
Good luck and God bless you always.
