I am a nurse midwife and do not think it is from the Depo but I would not recommend it to her again.  Depo is associated with a risk of low bone mineral density if it is continued over time.  Since individuals with CP can be more prone to osteoporosis or osteopenia, I would not think this is the best birth control option for her.  Depneding on her other medical hsitory, she might want to consider an alternative hormonal contraception such as a combined birth control pill or depneding on her situation, an IUD/IUS.

I have a friend who was on Depo.  She was very athletic her entire life and had never broken a bone, at the most she maybe sprained an ankle.  Then all the sudden she broke an ankle by sitting cross-legged in the floor, then a wrist.  It was as though she was falling apart.  After a series of test, she was diagnosed with early osteoporosis.  She no longer runs, speedskates, or participates in any other sport that she once enjoyed.  The doctor told her it was most likely caused by the Depo.
