Cerebral Palsy the same as congenital encephalopathy?

Cerebral Palsy the same as congenital encephalopathy?

My son has myoclonic seizures, microcephaly, cerebral visual impairments, truncal hypotonia with no spastic, and congenital encephalopathy. We went to the neurologist last week and he said that my son was hyponic. When I asked him to write it down so I would remember he said something about cerebral palsy but said he doesn't like to use that term as he likes congenital encephalopathy. so is the encephalopathy the same as cerebral palsy?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
I am sorry to hear about your son. Encephalopathy is any disorder of brain. It can be congenital so is called congenital encephalopathy. Cerebral palsy is also usually present since birth and is called congenital cerebral palsy too at times. It is a part of broader congenital encephalopathy which can include disorders other than cerebral palsy.
Hope this helps. Take care!
