Does this sound like CP?

by brilove09, Aug 25, 2009 02:19PM
I am just a concerned mom with a few questions about CP.  My daughter is 6 months old and she hasn't rolled over yet, doesn't reach for objects, and has poor muscle tone in her back, which of course means she is not even close to being able to sit unassisted.  She has detailed movements in her hands, but doesn't seem to move her arms in an outward or upward position.  For example, she will not reach out for a toy, but if you bring it close to her hands, she will grab it and then play with it.  She is developing normally in all other ways (cognitive, language, leg movements and strength are normal, etc).  The pediatrician thinks it could be a neurological thing effecting her arms, and she suggested we start PT with her so she could be further evaluated.  I was just wondering if this sounds like it could be CP?  Also I should add that when she was a couple of weeks old, she would have episodes of rhythmic twitches in her arms and sometimes legs.  Her pediatrician advised us to wait and see if they went away on their own and that they were probably nothing.  They did go away by the time she was about 8 weeks old, but when we were talking about this current issue, the pediatrician brought that back up, saying that it could be related.  Does this sound like anything here or does anyone have any similar experiences?

hi, well it could be CP, it could be delayed development, I have experienced similar with 2 of my kids, one has CP the other has craniostinosis, but both of them are fine. My son has right side hemiplegia and a cyst on brain and water on the brain, he is also missing his frontal lobe, but he walks talks runs jumps, is exceptionally clever at mathematical problems and puzzles, and apart from weakness in his right side he is absolutely normal.
I would suggest that you see a peadiatrician and have some testing done. It sounds as though there may be some spasticity there. Also important to find out whats going on so you can start the necessary treatments which may be as simple as some physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Let me know how it goes. Take care.
