Financial Assistance for CP Children

My son was born at 26 weeks. Diagnosed with CP. He is now 7 years old. Unfortunately I am a single mum who has an ex-husband who refuses to pay maintenance. Ive tried with the help of my family to put him into a private school as they are smaller classes and the hope that he wont get lost as in the case with a normal mainstream school. Howvere with the cost of living. needing physio, OT and NGO practicall every year and the med aid only paying certain portions for Botox and none for the NGO's it is becoming more and more difficult for me financiall to cope alone. Ive called other semi private and private schools but the school fees are horrendous. Being physically weak I am so scared to put him into a mainstream school as the kids could bully him and with the large number of children in one class he might not fit in. Is there help in these situations?????

Hi,

thanks for query. You are right the situation is difficult. The best place to get help is from support groups for this kind of children. Normally your doctor can help you. These groups help this kind of children. There  are special schools for disabled children. You do not need to send him to regular school, private or main stream. You can even get help from lots of NGO working for this.

Wishing him good helath.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
I am sorry to hear about all this. Yes, a very tough situation. I suggest you talk to your son's doctor and physiotherapist. May be there are schools around for especially challenged children or some school with a wing for them. Since these doctotrs and other such paramedical staff work with such patients, they are usually aware of such scholls and NGOs which can help you. Also there are some state programs for these children. Again you will have to ask your doctor and paramedical staff.
You can also join cerebral palsy support group. If you talk to other parents in these groups, you will get some ideas too. Take care!
