myoclonic jerks in a cerebral palsy child

My son is suffering from myoclonic jerks since last 13 yrs. he had meningitis on 4th day of life .  Recently from last december he is suffering from cramps in those jerks .  He cries severely in those multiple cramps.  W e have done his EEG on 29th december 2007 i am writing the conclusion found in his report " The record is abnormal.  It shows frequent Right Temporo occipital  epileptic discharges with occassional spread to Left side".  He is on Divaa 250(Divalproex Sodium equivalent to Valporic Acid 250 mg) and Topamac 25 mg(Topiramate 25 mg)  from last 4 yrs.  We need your help in analysing issue mentioned above and seek help in prescribing medicines for my son .

Hi.
I understand what you are going through.
Your son has been taking the same anticonvulsants for the last 4 years.  Has the dose been adjusted based on your son’s weight?  I think there is a need to adjust the dose of the drugs to control the symptoms.  Another suggestion would be to add another anticonvulsant or shift to another drug.
I would suggest bringing your son back to his neurologist for proper evaluation and management.
Good luck.

We went through similar...when the doctor adjusted the dosages, it stopped again.  He gained weight and the meds were not enough.
Good luck!
