Taxotere after Taxol for Cervical Cancer

by JP3684, Oct 14, 2009 12:17PM
My mother (85) has been having chemo and radiation for her cervical cancer for 1.5 years.  The cancer is stage 3 and has spread to lymph nodes in her neck and abdomen.  She has had Topotecan and then most recently Taxol.  The first scan after Taxol was good (June 2009), but the latest after 6 cycles of Taxol (Oct 2009) shows uptake in the neck, abdomen and the cervix (SUV 15.4).  Her oncologist advised the cancer has become resistant to these prior drugs.  She said the next drug to use would be Taxotere, but that since it is a derivative of Taxol, the cancer would be resistant to that, as well and the cons would outweigh the benefit.  Is this true?  Would there be a benefit of future chemo and / or radiation at this point?  Are there any other drugs to consider?  thanks
