What is Cervical Caner?

Can anybody tell what exactly is cervical cancer? I want to know more about cervical cancer, so please share your views here.

Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells on the cervix grow out of control and causes abnodmal vaginal bleeding, heavy bleeding, intermenstrual bleeding, post coital bleeding , post menopausal bleeding, increased vaginal discharge, pelvic pain or pain during sex. Cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV (some high risk strains)which is sexually transmitted. Other causes are smoking or having multiple sex partners. The risk of cervical increases when one is using birth control pills for a long time (5 or more years), having more than 5 children or if the mother used DES (diethylstilbestrol) during pregnancy.

Diagnosis is made after PAP smear, colposcopy and biopsy.
