advice on symptoms and progression please

Hi,
Need a bit of advice and help if possible.
Had a smear about 6 years ago that showed cell change (due to hpv) followed by a biopsy, no treatment and luckily the cells sorted themselves out, all smears since have been clear, I am due one in a few weeks as the last was a year ago (also clear). Last week I had some light bleeding straight after sex and have had some low abdominal pain, v mild since then. I am also trying to conceive with my period due in 5 days. I keep hoping the lower abdominal pain is an early pregnancy symptom, not something I usually get before my period, but am worried that along with the bleed after sex it is something altogether more serious. Is it possible for cancer to have developed in the year since my last clear smear? Would I have any other symptoms?
Am feeling quite worried and still have to wait a couple of weeks for the smear, and then a few weeks after that for results.
Any thoughts or advice really appreciated.

It is not common for cervical cancer to progress or develop that quickly.  After abnormal cells are found they will either clear on their own or they will slowly progress over a period of about 10 years.  

I'd say make an appointment just to be on the safe side though.
