CHIARI MALFORMATION COMMUNITY
11 Days Post Op

11 Days Post Op

Hi all.  I'm 11 days post op from decompression surgery. Mu surgery was on 9 Aug promptly at 0730.  I must say Dr. Oro', his staff and the medical center were I had the surgery were absolutely the best.  My head and neck hurt beyond belief, but I'm pretty confident that this surgery will eliminate most of my symptoms.  I even found out I had a few others while in surgery.  Since I'm out of work for 3 months, I called our base public affairs office to see if they would be willing to do a story about Chiari Malformation.  I want to do this for three reasons.  1. It is so rare and misdiagnosed/misread on MRIs and we have been given the runaround or thought of as faking or being crazy and 2. I'm the only one in the military that I know of that has this condition.  I even asked my doctor and nurse on base if anyone else on our base that is military has this condition and they said no.  The 3rd reason is how does the military handle disabilities, separations, continued care with Chiari patients. The base public affairs office said they were very interested in doing a video and story that they want to start filming a mini documentary next week.  Since I live in Idaho, I'm unaware of any Chiari organizations.  I sure would like to help build one once I get to feeling better.  Do any of my fellow Chiarians and Syringomyelia folks have any suggestions on what to mention that I might miss?  Unfortuanetely I have to be somewhat politically correct (darn) but I do know the runaround of symptoms and being passed from doctor to doctor is one of my concerns.  I appreciate your suggestions.  :)

Hi so glad to hear from u!!

Well I really believe it is not Chiari that is rare, look at how many of us there r....it is well informed and experienced Drs that are rare.

I know we have a few members that were in the military...they may pop on if u post a thread asking about that or use the search this community feature top right to find old threads.

Once u have some info outlined...maybe we can help with is on here : )

Good luck with that...and  I pray ur recovery goes smoothly
