2 Weeks Post Surgery

I had decompression surgery two weeks ago and am heading back for my two week follow up.  My question is it feels like something is going on in the right side of my head, it can be a ticklish or it can be like a headache.  I was told at 4 days post surgery I contracted virual menengitis and I've been taking a graduated dose of dexamethason. I know and understand the side affects/withddrawl from the steriods, I don't understand the pressure coming from the incision area.  My other symptoms have improved. Are the head issues normal?

I had the same issue right after surgery. My NS explained it to me that they move a pretty big muscle in the back of your neck in surgery so it will take time for it to remember how it suppose to feel.  I had the sensation on the right side of my head for at least 6 mths. after surgery.  Do ask your dr. just to make sure.  Good luck with your appoint.  Remember to take it easy and rest, rest , rest.

I dont know if its normal but recovery is strange sometimes...i had other symptoms during recovery and sometimes felt my body going crazy.ask and try to trust ur doctor and take it easy...i mean the incision is just big and ur body has to handle whats been done...must be difficult.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Since u had meningitis and were on a steroid it is possible what u r feeling is from that, but do tell ur Dr all that u r dealing with post op so when u have ur post op visit he knows what is going on and checks u completely.

As u heal u will have a return of some symptoms, they should not be the same as b4 surgery or u should not develop new symptoms...if u feel worse, call ur Dr asap.

Keep an eye on the incision area for swelling....

The other sensation could be if u r washing ur hair too often...use J&J baby shampoo and do not wash often as it dries the skin and causes it to pull at the incision and could be what u r feeling.

Post an update after u see ur Dr
