2nd Surgery-Dura patch

Hello,
I am looking for info regarding dura patches. My hubby now 35, had decompression surgery for a14mm herniation 2 years ago and his symptoms have reoccured. During the 1st surgery, the NS removed a 1"x2" piece of his skull and shaved off 3/4 of C1. What can we expect, short term and long term? Will he be able to return to work? What is the success rate?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I may be wrong, but that sounds excessive in what was removed.

May I ask is he going back to the same NS?...Why do they feel he needs a new dura patch?
What type of patch was used the first time?

How long has it been that the symptoms have returned?

What symptoms have returned and how severe?

It is hard to say what the success rate is, not sure what the issue is....did the patch fail, is there scar tissue....or does he have brain slump?

I would get a few opinions and be sure to get one from a true chiari specialist.

We r always happy to welcome new people to our little family here, but never happy for the reasons that bring them.
